I have located two brands of Red engine paint, Duplicolor 1608DH and Krylon 1611-2114. Which is best tor durability and closest to original?

I just bought a case of the Krylon and have been pleased with the color, coverage and hardness of the finish. I've used both brands in the distant past and never had trouble with either.

The Krylon may have abit more shine. They are both pretty close in color but after 40 years who can tell? Duplicolor may be more heat resistant. Either will work. Maybe spray some of each on some scrap metal and compare with original paint if any is good.

Yeah, the DH 1608 is semi-gloss/satin, and would probably do well with a coat of clear on the valve covers if you want it to shine.

It is kind of odd how the Duplicolor dries to a semi-gloss on the valve covers, yet dries to a high gloss on the cast iron parts.

    Interesting.

I wont be spraying any red engine color on my chrome valve covers.

I used krylon 2114 buick red recently and it still looks great. Time will be the test.

Now months after my rebuild and several hundred miles I'm very pleased with how well the Duplicolor has managed with the heat. In only the few places where it gets the hottest it turns black but doesn't get flaky and messy. Just prior to any shows I hit just those spots with a quicky fresh coat.
