Does anyone know a good source to get Buick Red in a rattle can in Canada? I tried Bill Hirshe but they don't ship to Canada. This is for a '67 Skylark 340-4.

    Thanks!

as suggested by J.W., I am going to use Duplicolor universal red #1653, good to 500*, for my engine. Can buy at Canadian Tire for about $15 per can.
I have several new cans of Krylon Buick red #2114, good to 300*. willing to sell.
The Duplicolor is close as u can get and is fine for me..

I tried CARS about two months ago and bought 10 cans. First can stopped up as soon as I pressed the tip. Second can worked but the color was pinkish. I posted on the forum at the time. I sent all 10 cans back with color samples of CARS and the Duplicolor. CARS refunded my money with no hassle and paid for return shipping. Duplicolor worked great and color is as close as I have seen to the Buick red on existing parts I have.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback. Sean and Chuck, how would you rate the durability of the duplicolor enamel over the long term? As compared to something from Eastwood or Hirsche? Also Chuck, are you using the Ford red also or a different shade?

I have been using this for yeas and they key to the durability is in the prep. If you have a clean surface it last well, if you do not fully remove oil or grime then no paint will last. When I was young I would Go way to thick on the coats of paint. Now I find thinner coats more durable.

I am only using the Duplicolor and have not used Eastwood or Hirsche so I can't give you a comparison. I did use the Krylon two years ago on another GS400 but I could not find it any more so went with the Duplicolor. The Krylon has held up well so far but the engine probably only has a 1000 miles on it since painted.

If you do a post search on engine paint you will find our Board founder Jim recommended Rustoleum Red high temp paint but I could not find enough of it at the big box or hardware stores so went with Duplicolor which I found at autoparts stores. Took me visiting 4-5 stores on a Sunday afternoon a couple of months ago to find 8-10 cans.

    Hope that helps

Did you use the same ford red as I used?

I used the Duplicolor DH1608 which is a nice red. Not sure what Ford red is or who makes it.

Am I the only one who has used Farmall red with no issues? I got my last 2 cans at Tractor Supply and they had many cans and was reasonably priced. It has high heat capabilities as it's used on motors etc..Most would never tell either..But,that Krylon 2114 was the good stuff..Can't ever find it locally though.

I'm using duplicolor 1605 ford red as seen in the pics above... It must be a close match to what your using...

I settled on Duplicolor #1653 universal red. So now that that's decided, do you guys prime your engines before paint? If so, what are you using for primer? I could not find high temp primer at the stores I visited. Also, are you guys clear coating over the final coat? Thanks

As far as I know, no primer is required. I painted my engine in 2002 and the paint, without primer, has held up very well. However, with the engine out of the car, I am about to wire brush the block to remove any loose paint and repaint.

Have not used primer on three different engines. They have all held up well. I don't now if I have every heard of a high temp clear but don't think you need it.

    My $0.02

I grabbed a can of the Duplicolor to compare to the Krylon and it's noticeably different. So it depends on what you want. We carry the correct Buick Red paint for those who want it. ;)
