Several people have asked me to send pics of my Sun Coupe resto, so I figured the best way to handle that would be to start a thread.

I bought this car sight-unseen except for pictures off eBay in June '06. The car sat until this last March while I gathered parts, and came up with a plan of attack.

Originally, I was just going to keep this one all stock, and just do a minor cleanup and resto on it and drive it. The more I thought about it, the more I wished it was really a GS instead of "just" a Sun Coupe. Even though it was a really clean example, it still needed some things.

So I dug in this past March, and of course my Plan "A" of keeping it original went out the window. Plan "B" was to do a GS 350 clone. That lasted about a month. In one thread, Duane H. asked me, "Are you doing a GSX clone?". Well at the time, the answer was a definite "no". However, over the course of the summer, I came into several original GSX parts, which got me to thinking "why not?". This is probably going to be my last restoration, and with the prices of real X's being so up there, I'll probably never be able to afford another X. (I should've kept the other two, !@#$)

Along the way, the idea of keeping the original Flame Orange was tossed after a long discussion with my painter. Since my last GS was Stratomist Blue, and that's my favorite color of all the '72 colors, we decided to go with Stratomist Blue.

As you can see from the pics, we discovered several things from the car's past that had been hidden under the mostly original paint. The left quarter had taken a direct hit. I also found out that the front right fender, core support, hood, and both bumpers had all been replaced; possibly in the same accident.

Well, now that Plan "C" is out in the open, all my progress pics are on my Facebook page at:

So do I, but my knees and back really kill me sometimes, and I'm "only" 51! What's it gonna be like when I'm 71? Getting old is a pain, literally.

Dean, awesome job! That color is the best color in my honest opinion. I could be a bit biased though...

About time Dean! It's nice when the piles in the house, garage, ect start to get smaller!

The problem is right now I've got to get the piles created from all the exterior and interior pieces eliminated, just so I'll have the space to create MORE piles from all the under hood and chassis pieces.

Will try to get some more tomorrow.
I've got the front bumper/grill/headlights, etc. all back on, and most of the weatherstripping done. I'm still working on the back bumper and tail light wiring.

I may have to completely redo the interior. I've searched the board and done everything suggested to clean these darn white interior pieces with absolutely no luck in getting them clean. :af:

I may also be changing direction on the motor, as I got a line on a free (yes free!) 455 with starter mount damage. I'm supposed to go look at it tomorrow. I may have a bunch of T/A 350 parts for sale real soon. We'll see!

Dean, search craigslist for a donor car. Those mid 70's big cars are out there in good numbers. I say another BBB Suncoupe is an awesome idea. Join us

Well, all I can say is I brought this home the other night.............
Can you say "Big Block"? :Brow:

Ignore the Olds air cleaner, the Buick one was in the trunk. Texas car all it's life, VERY rusty though. The body is shot, but the mechanicals and everything I need for the swap is there.

Well, since the weather was so nice here this weekend (75*), I thought I'd get out there and install the power door locks. Unfortunately I found out the setup I'd bought at swap meet 2 years ago did NOT come from an A-body, so that puts that on hold. :af:

So...........I decided to test mount the GS rocker moldings, etc.
I used the instructions off of George N.'s site at http://www.buickperformance.com/GSRockerPanels.htm which worked out great. Thanks George!
Now all I have to do is get these things polished and I can mount them permanently.

Here's a long overdue update on the Sun Coupe. Started stripping the front bench for recovering. BOY do my knees hurt! This will be the first time I've attempted recovering seats myself, should be interesting.

That's very, very nice. I was considering going Stratomist Blue for a long time before choosing my colour for my GSX clone.

    Keep up the good work!

Just got the seat covers for the front seat done this last weekend. Would have been done a month ago, but Legendary sent me two drivers side seat backs. Took them almost a month to get the replacement cover to me! Looks good now. I still have to reassemble the bench/arm rest/etc. and get it back in the car. Someday it'll be done, just don't know when. I'm already about two years behind my original schedule. :Do No:
