This came in the trunk of my 65 Skylark. Is this a tilt or telescopic folding column??? Would I be able to use this in my Skylark and also whold i be able to lose the cadillac decal or even the wheel for a Buick.
Way to much work. FWIW I was on the hunt for a 67-68 Tilt column... There are lots of 64-66 tilts out there. For less than what I paid for mine..
Your 65 Skylark is a front steer, the steering is in front of the suspension. The Cadillac column you have looks to be a rear steer, steering is behind the suspension. That would mean the column is too short for your A body. This looks to be a 66 and back Cadillac column. It looks to be a tilt but not a telescope column. Measure the diameter of both columns where they mount under the dash, if they are the same then it would easily mount into the 65 Buick, then you would only need to make something to extend the column flange down to connect to your steering box. Not too difficult, again IMO. there is a rag joint there at the steering box and they were all the same size and bolt pattern flanges down there because all the rebuild kits for the rag joints are the same, one part number fits all, which the kit is merely a new rubber disc and some hardware. The wiring for the Cadillac tilt and the Buick tilt columns are the same. The actual switch is located on the exterior of the column down under the dash and is actuated by a cable of a sort (Looks like a cable for hand brakes on a bicycle, but has a piece of non bending wire inside the housing instead of a cable so it can push as well as pull. There is an adapter harness which plugs into the tilt turn signal switch and adapts the wiring to the familiar "C" shaped turn signal wiring down there under the dash, and I see that adapter is present in one of the pictures, so no problem there. Again, IMO, this install MAY only have one hang up, the Cadillac column it shorter than your Skylark and needs an extension of some sort. Good Luck,
Still trying to figure out what i can do with it. Pm me what you want to do with it and an offer. Thanks
Install it into a '62 Cadillac. Unless you remove the steering wheel shipping from Ca. to Ct. would be very costly, AND if you don't remove the steering wheel properly then for the most part it's scrap metal.
