Ok, I bought a rebuilt carb 1970 7040240. This is a picture of the base gasket that was included. I email the seller and I say "Hey, you sent me the wrong gasket." The seller assures me they have 100's of these gaskets in use, but they will send me whatever gasket I ask for. I know it will work, but this is not Cuba. Right or wrong gasket? What do you guys think?
Im not sure Im a Quadrajet "expert" but I know that isn't the right gasket. According to Quadrajet Parts, that is a 1970 Cadillac gasket. https://quadrajetparts.com/quadrajet-base-gasket-062-thick-cadillac-1970-p-105.html The Fel Pro number for the Buick is 60151
Thanks Jason, yeah...I kind of knew it was the wrong gasket. I didn't know what it was for, only that it wasn't right. This is just the tip of the iceburg from my Qjet nightmare!
Yeah...I think you might know this guy's work, Brett! Stay tuned...there's gonna be more to follow.....
I offered. You didn’t tell me what you wanted. Sorry I couldn’t help you. And Brett had wrong carb for stock engine. We do our best to keep happy customers. Just not possible some times.
View attachment 384119 No Mark, that's not true! I haven't even gotten to the good stuff yet. You wanted me to pay to return a carb that's has absolutely poor plating. You refused to answer my questions if you ever looked at the carb, worked on it, or packed it. You gave me the wrong gasket! You refused to answer my question about the pulloff IT'S THE WRONG PULLOFF FOR A BUICK. You did not try to work with me, you didn't have the courtesy to return my phone call. Right, you will fix your obvious error for free if I pay to ship the carb back to you at my expense???? Are you freakin' kidding me???? Better check your pulloffs guys, cuz' Mark Northcutt doesn't know what a Buick pulloff looks like. Ain't that the truth Mark? As they say in TX, "Smear my ears with jelly and tie me by an an anthole if I'm lyin' !" Here's a pic of the carb that mark sent me right after I opened the box. Mark wants me to pay the return shipping to fix it (for free). I still got more pics I'll post later...got to find the pic....wait The carb I got from Mark is on the right. He wants me to pay return shipping to TX for him to fix it for me at N/C. Notice the hammered fitting on the vacuum tube in the second pic? Yeah...I can just about get a hypodermic needle in there! Hey I got more pics, a LOT of em'! It's quality work here.........................
I had the carb that was ordered for my car 2 months before I bought it. I don't think a B4B switch makes that much of a difference.
Wow, the arrogance of this guy is unbelievable! He makes no mistakes. See with your own eyes. I'm not saying he can't rebuild a carb. What I'm saying is he DOESN'T do it! He;s not gonna' even look at it. Maybe his son does them, maybe the cub scout troop down the street. Who knows? But he clearly doesn't care about detail, if you got a problem he's not going to respond. I've been trying to work with this guy for over a week. Hey...if he's screwed you over, it's like the "Me too" carb movement. Please pile on, because this guy has gotta' be stopped. I mean...Stevie wonder could feel around this carb and know it's the wrong pulloff and gasket, and every fitting is HAMMERED, literally hammered! Hell the slashed vent looks like a Smurf hat! I got pics..........
If the casting is weathered, they don't color well. Nothing anyone can do. I'm not saying that is the case here, I'm only offering it for consideration. There are other sources out there. Fred Catlin and I have offered to re-color, re-plate, rebuild, stock, performance, whatever you need for GS Club members or anyone. PM me if you want to talk with Fred.
That's one reason I suggest everyone buy the book from Cliff, and the parts and learn............Plate-ing from someone else reputable.
I have done that coloring on the body. and it's a bitch, especially if they are badly weathered.. Cliff will tell you that. Like I said in the other thread.. you sent a carb to a good performance builder, that you wanted to come back as a concours resto. If you want that, you send the carb to Cliff, along with $600 of your dollars, and wait about a year last I heard.. Remember, it's in your best interest to delete this thread, if Cliff sees it, he will not do anything for you. JW
Just for my information, what is wrong about the pull-off on that carb? The one on my 1971 800 CFM Buick QJet looks just like it.
Ray, the vacuum line on the secondary pullof (rear) should point up toward the carb, not away from it. It's clocked about 90* off. I see only the front pull-of is pictured here, and probably the source of confusion. Seen many of them like that now, the re-manufacturer of that part needs to be educated on how they should be indexed. JW
This is not a battle worth fighting, no one wants more enemies by the end of the day compared to when they woke up.
I see it now. I was also confused by the pic showing the front. My secondary pull-off, also done by Mark, is correct.
