Have a quick question. I took I my motor apart just to change some gaskets and I noticed the camshaft. It has some pitting on the top of multiple cam lobes. Would anybody know what would cause this?

    This is an hydraulic cam.

Bad casting like Ben said, see if where ever you bought it from will warrantee it. Make sure they include new lifters as well, if you don't tell them that more than likely they will try not to include them.

I bought it from TA. I will have to call them in the morning. In the mean time. I need to take the entire motor apart since I pulled off my oil pan. There is chunks of iron on the pickup. Let’s hope my bearings are fine.

Valve springs suitable for the cam? No coil bind? Enough retainer-to-seal, or retainer-to-guide clearance?

Looks to me like SERIOUS valve train issues. Cam is junk, lifters are junk, everything else is questionable. How many miles/hours on this cam?

Are the lifters spinning as they should?
Look at the bottom of each lifter, there should be a light grayish circular pattern on the bottom of each one.
If a lifter/s have a definitive "stripe" on the bottom, its not spinning.
    Plus everything else Shurkey suggested.
Need more info, pics of the lifters also.
Was the block shot blasted or whatever they do that can peen over the tops of the lifter bores a wee bit causing the lifter to not spin in its bore?

That Cam is wiped, as even without the pitting issue I see one Cam lobe who's base circle is shinny all the way across its width which means that lifter is not spinning as it should every time the valve opens!

If I had to guess. 20-30 hours on the cam. I will have to check the specs on the spring.

I took a picture this morning on the way out the door. All the lifters look like this on the bottom. This is not a new block. It was built years ago. I had a bigger cam in there before then I put this smaller one in there. I will check the spec on the springs to make sure they are compatible.

    Wear pattern looks normal.
