Hi, Sorry someone did a hack job on that piece getting the radio out before I got to it. Thanks Bruce
Hey Adam, How do I tell if this engine and tranny are anything special, It's a 455/4, build sheet, eng. SAL74, trans. BC. Thanks Bruce
Update on stuck 455 Heres what we have, a stuck 71 / 455 (non-smogger), Its been sitting for 12 years, 86,000 mi, on it. Original inspection it had the hood on it and the breather intact, oil in the pan, antifreeze in the rad, with pressure in the rad. First sprayed every cylinder with liquid wrench for 3 or 4 days, and let sit, next blow out cylinders, add Marvel mystery oil to each cylinder let sit for a week. Still locked solid. I dont want to take it apart, cause I dont need to right now and if I did I probably loose parts. Next remove distributor, wow everything I can see down the hole looks clean and fresh, no sludge. Spin oil pump with drill, slow to pick up initially, starts to build good pressure you can feel the drill work, drill starts to smoke ou: . Remove the drill you can see the oil pressure drive the pump shaft backwards. Still locked solid. So we arrange the rad hoses so they point up, fill the block with water. It has a re-circulating block heater, it pulls water off the intake and feed it back into the water pump, via heater hoses, we plug this in , 12 hrs on 12 hrs off, the block actually gets hot. Pull the rocker covers off, everything is real clean, no sludge, you can see where oil is being pumped to the top of the rockers. Some one has replaced some of the rockers on the pass side, some are cast aluminium and some are stamped steel. Drain contents of each cylinder, pull exhaust push rods, put plugs in, fill intake through carb with diesel fuel. Open each intake valve to fill cylinders. This is where we are now. We are trying to revolve crank assembly with a 2 bar, I figure if I go with a 4 bar Ill just bend a rod. We are getting slight movement on the front of the crank and may be a little movement on the flywheel end, (or it was my imagination). We are going to continue warming the block 12 hrs on 12 hrs off, topping it up with diesel, giving it a little pry. This car was sitting on the ground, the inspection cover for the torque converter had rotted through. The oil pan is real thin and every time I disturb it, it springs a new leak, currently I have 3 self tapping screws into it with soft rubber under the heads to stem the flow. DoubleD has offered me a pan and Ill take him up on it if I can get it unstuck. Bruce
minus the bumper and a little more level side to side, thats where my car is are any of the chrome plated carriage bolts that hold the bumper on useable? just broke one of mine... Send a PM, ill probably never be able to find this thread again. thanks
I also had a 455 with stuck pistons. I tried everything that was mentioned and it didn't work. Finally an old timer told me to use I think JB Blaster. You can get at any local auto parts store. The can looks like it has advertising all over it. Popped the pistons out in three after three days. Good luck getting yours running. Ron
We tried everything. Finally took it apart. Things look great, no ridge at the top of the cylinders, Cylinders stock bore, crank never been turned. 3 pistons were stuck really bad, pounded them out with a piece of hardwood dowling and a hammer. The build up of carbon deposits, gasoline and oil below the oil ring between each piston and cylinder has turned to varnish. Nothing I put in would weep down past all 3 rings and nothing would work from the bottom up. Should of flipped the motor upside down ou: Thanks Bruce
