Carb Screen for Drag Racing

Anyone using a screen on thier Holley, Quickfuel, Demon etc at the track. I often take my aircleaner off and thought it would be good insurance. I am running a Stage 2 Scoop and a 850cfm Mighty Demon. (No choke/airhorn). Was looking at this one:

I would think that would be more restrictive than the air filter. Especially if you filter has a filter top

 

I would rather see one like a Pontac RA IV or Corvette L88 set up - wider mesh, 360 air intake

What I'm looking to do is rather similar. I'm planning on sourcing an air cleaner base , adding foam to the top ring to seal it to Stsge 2 fiberglass lift off hood. Thanks for the replies.....JIM

 

My 7"tall K&N Filter is an oil soak filter.
I'm thinking it is too restrictive. I plan on just using the screen at the track in an air cleaner base thats seals to Stage 2 scoop, lift off fiberglass hood . No aircleaner top.....much like BigPig455s

I would think a 7" tall filter should flow pretty well. I guess if it's too oiled it could cause a restriction. Not sure how your fitting a 7" filter in there, a 4" pinned mine right flat against the stage 2 scoop with my sp1

 

I had to go check on the K&N air filter .

Offenhauser 360 with a 1" spacer under a Mighty Demon 850.
Looking to use an aircleaner base to fabricate a seal to my Stage 2 fiberglass hood. The screen is for piece of mind..........Jim

 

That 360 intake is alot lower than the sp1, that how you could fit that tall of cleaner..

Have a Dominator on the regal and run with no filter / screen. Its sealed to the underside of the hood with a air pan. Will stuff a cut piece of foam in the scoop when storing or transporting the car.

 

Just get one of them there fly eye Edelbrock air cleaners and run that without the foam air cleaner element in it, cheap and done.

A real fly eye is a lot more expensive than anything else discussed here! I like the dominator screen, just wish I could find something like it in a 5 1/4 carb base size for a q-jet.
