Ok, I have a strange topic here. My brother-in-law has a couple of carbon fiber bats, and he wants them stripped, and painted or coated in some fashion.

what are the ins-n-outs of doing this, and is it even possible?

  2. So Mark, what devious plot is he undertaking?? Going to disguise them as wood? :puzzled:

David, your on the right track. They are outlawed or something, so they need to be changed to look more inconspicuous. Don't know what happens if your caught either. The things I get myself into, I need my head examined.

  4. Yup, I can guarantee you they are no longer legal for most softball/baseball organizations. I would assume we're talking softball here. He's asking for trouble. Would likely be banned from whatever league he's in, for a year or more. Those bats are banned because they have such a tremendous rebound factor. I've seen pitchers damn near killed by a line drive off those bats. I'll quit here... :spank: to your brother-in-law!

    David, yep, softball.

Great, I didn't know any of that. I'll just have to say no can do.

He doesn't need this - :spank: he needs - :blast:

  6. You got that right, Mark! Some guys just aren't satisfied to play by the rules, even when player safety is involved.

Even college baseball has been working on restricting the rebound factor of plain old aluminum bats due to injuries, specifically to pitchers. I never had a line drive hit back at my face in all my years pitching HS and college baseball, but can you imagine delivering a pitch, and being about 55' from home plate after throwing a 90mph fastball, and having it come back at your face at probably 120mph + ? Not pretty...

As a former pitcher...I don't think I'd want to have to try dodging bullets from some of the bats they have out now!!:eek2:

It was bad enough playing hardball...softball has the pitcher even closer!! I had my share of 'close' calls!!:Brow: Even missed a few of them!:Dou:

Nothing like having a tatoo on your body from those laces!!

Ok. I play twice a week in the L.A.City league mens softball. The rule about illegal bats is as follows. The umpire has discretion to either eject the player, which would include the following game aswell or, can call the player out after contact. Then the bat is removed from the game and the player can continue with a legal bat. Or he can be called an automatic out upon every at bat thereafter. Either way it's like putting fuel injection in a 65. Why?

Why dosen't he just learn how to hit then he wouldn't have to worry? Trust me, you can pop up to the pitcher with a $500 carbon/alloy/titanium/two piece fancy ass deluxe just as easy as with a 50 dollar Wal Mart special. I have team mates with fancy bats that don't help. Besides, you can tell by the sound it makes. One hit and the whole field would know, and then he could also run the risk of a multiplayer ass whoop'n...lol Not that I'd care, I'd be happy to through his ass out at first with whatever bat he chooses. Those big swings always send me a routine groundball (3B):Brow:

This reminds me of a King of the Hill episode when
Peggy says He is a cheater Hank, he corks his bat.
Hank says Peggy that is an aluminum bat?
Peggy says I said he was a cheater Hank, I didnt say he was smart.
