I have a 54 Carter that needs to be rebuilt, any reason I shouldn't try this myself? I've been able to have pretty good luck with the q jet. Just haven't opened up a Carter.
Might as well give it a try. All carbs do the same thing, mix fuel and air, so there are similarities in all. Take pictures and remember where everything goes.
Is it the WCFB model? Can you post a picture? A good place for parts is Mike's carburetor. Good luck. http://www.carburetor-parts.com/WCFB_c_139.html
I don't have a picture handy, I did get my kit from Mikes. It is a model 2082S. I just need to clear a day or two so I can get this done. It might have to soak...
I disassembled mine and put the body, top, and bottom in the blast cabinet. I cleaned it all with a couple cans of carb clean and installed a basic rebuild kit with new accelerator pump. The 401 runs like new and it cost me $25 for the kit. I really like these carbs and have been hoarding a few extras. If you are good with a q-jet,then these are no problem.
