I have a 54 Carter that needs to be rebuilt, any reason I shouldn't try this myself? I've been able to have pretty good luck with the q jet. Just haven't opened up a Carter.

Might as well give it a try. All carbs do the same thing, mix fuel and air, so there are similarities in all.
Take pictures and remember where everything goes.

I don't have a picture handy, I did get my kit from Mikes. It is a model 2082S. I just need to clear a day or two so I can get this done. It might have to soak...

I disassembled mine and put the body, top, and bottom in the blast cabinet. I cleaned it all with a couple cans of carb clean and installed a basic rebuild kit with new accelerator pump. The 401 runs like new and it cost me $25 for the kit. I really like these carbs and have been hoarding a few extras. If you are good with a q-jet,then these are no problem.
