So, last Friday afternoon I stopped to get oil at Napa. At the parking lot exit, the 72 vert stalled. Fired it back up and stalled right away. Rolled back into the lot, was not squirting any fuel at all, and got a tow. As expected no one had a fuel pump anywhere, so ordered one.
Oddly, I had bucket tested the old pump by hand over the weekend and got soaked. Seemed like it worked just fine.
It came in this AM. Had it in an hour, still no fuel at all. Perplexing.? Went front to back replacing rubber lines and checking metal lines. When I got to the tank area, I noticed a kink(I thought) in the metal line over the shock top mount. The end of the frame perch for the shock was broken clean off and ripped the fuel line open 3/4 of the way right behind the hold down clamp. I was amazed!
Bad news I have an extra $27. DEFICIT IN MY POCKET.
Good news, I have an extra fuel pump now!

JUST THOUGHT THIS MIGHT HELP ANOTHER SOMETIME.

    Wow, what caused it?

At least you didn’t have an in-tank pusher pump! That could have been exciting.

Buick, that is true! It would have been a firey situation , maybe.
Joe, no air shocks now. When I bought the car 18 yrs ago it had air shocks and station wagon rear springs. Those all got replaced first year. I have Edelbrock IAS shocks.
All is well that ends well. She's all welded up , fuel line fixed, and running just fine again.

  5. I was chasing loss of fuel, and found a toy carrot in the gas tank!

Aren't kids great. They are a joy in you life and a carrot in your tank. Glad you found it. I put a locking gas cap on my Wildcat after a mysterious loss of a tank of fuel. At least they put the cap back on after they siphoned it out.

First thing I thought of also.
Air shocks put tremendous load on mounts not designed to take a load.

It would appear that the area in question has been "environmentally lightened" over the years. But I must say, I have seen some pretty rusty skylarks, never seen that area broken,
