My engine in the "Low compression in 1 cyl " thread is a 68, where do these heads usually crack and would that possibly be my problem? Keith
Late to the conversation, I believe factory replacement blocks have no stamping on the left front. The casting number on the top back of the block where the trans bolts would be helpful in identifying your block.
What do the 2 digit codes indicate on the pad between the cylinders, i think mine said ?32 Its a 71 GS 350, i came to this thread to find where to look for the VIN. Thanks Steve
Those numbers im not 100% sure of. The vin number i found for my car on the front of the motor by the timing chain cover on the passenger side bank of the motor. Is that 32 on the block between cylinders or the head?
I found my VIN on the front of the block, it is the original matching number block. I cant be sure on the other components, except other than by date codes. My heads do have a big 71 cast on them i believe. I also found the build sheet on the gas tank. It just keeps gettin better and better. One owner, original motor, build sheet! And a ton of other paperwork that came with the car. I have the original 1971 title, he thought he had lost it, so he applied for a lost title to transfer it to me. The original was in a stack of papers he handed me. The original dealer order form was also in with it. I just didnt get the window sticker. I got almost every year of registration papers he had. One reciept from Super Shops for something he bought for it. I never owned a car that had all this documentation. I realize what i have, but im going to do some cosmetic changes, like color, to a different shade of green, and i think im going to change the interior color from black to saddle. I know this may make some people upset, but it could always be changed back, and im keeping the car for myself. Steve
