upload_2018-12-25_11-22-0.jpeg After much back and forth trying to justify spending the $'s on such a selfish, self centered but most gratifying item I took advantage of the TA sale on the Tomahawk block. I really wasn't going to do it. Just muddle along with my iron block engines. Then a few weeks ago as a joke I showed the wife the picture above and said this is what I want for my Christmas gift. Told her if I act now its on sale! To my surprise she said go get it so I did. Also very glad I made the call when I did as I didn't know TA was closing on the 21st for the Holiday and the payment had to be there prior. Also didn't know they would not accept payment by CC. Cash , Check, MO only. Left me scrambling to get it together and in the mail on time. Now to get the rotating assembly.

How many of you guys took advantage of the sale and how soon do you expect to have it together?

Went with the 3" mains and the 54 mm cam tunnel. Soooo that means nothing I have now will work in the new build. Will go with the 4.500 bore and enough stroke to get it over 550 cubes. Been reading that with the max stroke 4.40 (?) rods are very close to hitting the cam lobes and really does not make enough additional power to justify the risk.

Good for you Steve. You do realize this may add to your honey-do list , and you will do whatever the woman wants , without so much as a grumble, right?

Awesome Briz, color me envious! I too tried the "it's on sale right now, we'd save a ton" approach. It didn't work on my wife... :(

That's awesome! Put it in the Riv! The Regal seems fast enough!

Yes, exactly what I said months ago!

Would probably be the only correct wheel drive Riv of that year that is a race car? The cool factor would be through the roof!

Way to go Briz! I will be living vicariously through you for a while as I follow your build. If you ever bring it to Bradenton Motorsports Park, post a notice on here so I can watch it run. Congratulations

Im not really sure. Only thought was that with the sale price they were trying to keep the total cost down by avoiding CC charges. Didn't ask Tim why when I placed the order. Just said "OK, I'll make it happen. Payment got there Friday before the end of business for the year.

Awwwwww, I cant do that. I like the Riv just as she is. Reasoning behind building the Captain America Skylark and then later the Regal was to keep the Riv off the track. Really, This mess is all your guys fault. I never had any interest or desire to race until I started hanging out here.
Really have no idea. Probably early summer. Probably will have it shipped to JW for the machine work and possibly the bottom end assembly. He has much exp putting these together and knows what works and what dont.

I do whatever she ask now and plenty I see that needs done without asking. She has me well trained.

As far as the Regal goes. I probably wont keep it very long after the build is complete. The car is a good second stepping stone and far above the Skylark build but probably is not as safe as it should be for the power thats pushing it. Its close to that 6.40 / 9.99 mark now, go faster and that will put me in a completely different place when it comes to tech and safety systems. If I ever had to get a cert on the cage it would never pass.

Oh, I thought he meant the '85 I think it was that you had/have converted to correct wheel drive would be a great replacement for the Regal. The older Riv you have, I would have to agree with you to not cut that one up to make a race car out of.

That would be fun to do but there again, That Riv is far to nice. If I do end up keeping it there will have to be changes made. The 307 is anemic. The ports on the heads are tiny. Plenty of room in the manifolds and exhaust for more flow which will help get a bit more oomph out of it. So after market intake and heads little hotter cam . Be like diving a different car.

Congrats on the TA block...should work nicely in one of your strip rods.
