    Hey All,

Real simple questions, will the .027 Cometic head gaskets work with a 1973 455 Stage 1 out of a Rivera GS?

    Thanks,

    Scott

Yes! Also long as your running the stock Cam you will still have plenty of V to P clearance steeping down to a .027" gasket.
If your not running a stock Cam you would want to check and confirm that you valve to piston clearance is still in a happy range.

    Hmmm,

I'm running the TA290-94H cam but the pistons are Wiseco 5055H4 w/ 22cc dish and valve reliefs. The pistons sit .019 in the hole and i am running stock rocker arm ratio (1.55) with Stage 1 valves.

    Easiest way to check?

You'll be fine, but you can use play doh or modeling clay, or checking springs

I wouldn't even worry. It's a smaller cam with barely .500 lift, the pistons are .019 in the hole, and you HAVE valve reliefs. Should be no problem at all.

    How large are you thinking?

Not sure. When I talked with TA, this cam is what they recommended. I wanted to do a Scott Brown cam but couldn’t connect with them.

I’m running power breaks, full weight 71 Lark, 3.42 gears, AC, no serious racing just a couple times and stoplight mischief, & 9.6:1 with the cometics.

bigger cams normally means larger overlap. more overlap means less vacuum. be careful to get one that will have enough to run your power brakes

    Ben,

Correct and hence why I initially went with the TA290-94. They only other cam I was thinking about would be the 288-92.

I'd just hate to put this motor together and then want more... I mean that will be inevitable, but hopefully not for a while :D

Around here, it's called "Plumber's Putty" or a big length of "Rope Caulk" all mushed-up to a usable length and thickness. Available at any home-improvement/hardware store.

Thanks for all the help guys!

One more question that i thought of. Since the engine is a '73, would the oval water jackets be an issue with the Cometics?

No, there should be no problem.
