In Jan I sent my original compressor out to Classic Auto Air in Tampa to get it rebuilt and have a good seal put in that would not spray oil all over under my hood. Got it back in a few weeks and then I let it set in the box for a few months until I got around to putting it on. Thats when I discovered that my nearly full tank of 12 was stone cold empty. I ended up gathering nearly 2 cases of 12OZ cans then did my swap.

Drove to the ROA meet in NC. worked fine and no oil streak. Drove down to Coco Beach for Johns gathering last week ( about 1500 miles total)and when I got there and opened the hood there was the streak. Deal with it later and I soon forgot about it. Took the hood off Thursday and then drove to the next town to pick up the new hood from the painter and Im thinking its raining. dots all over the windshield. Its compressor oil. When I get there I found the front part of the clutch assembly sticking 1/2" from the rest of the clutch and I can easily slide it in and out. The nuts on tight. Today I look at the compressor I took off and it has a different type of nut on it. Switch them out and no change. Put a washer in behind it and it restricted the movement down to less than a 1/4 " but the shaft just free spins. when running it wont pump. pressures stay static around 120 PSIG high n low.

Guess Im going to be doing another compressor swap soon. good thing I own all the equipment to get it done. even got a recovery tank dedicated to R12.

Will you be having classic warranty the comp? The a6 comps have always had the oil misting issue.

I will call them and see what they will do. Be pretty disappointed if they don't stand behind it.

Talked to Classic yesterday. Once I got transferred to the correct guy he seemed less than interested in what I had to say and sounded a bit annoyed. Tried to tell me how to repair it myself and then said its out of warranty. I was driving and lost the connection. tried to call back and got his voice mail. Never returned my call.
    Whats up with that?

Call backand tell them you want to speak to Tim. He is thehead guy in charge there.
Personally, I would just go with one of the new aluminum a6 replacements.

I boxed up and sent the compressor back last week. Put a note in the box about what was going on. Yesterday I get a call from Chris at CAA. He says its all fixed up and free of charge. Turns out something to do with the keyway was defective and they fixed it for free despite being out of the warranty period. Also said the tech added a "oil wick". dont really know what that is but its supposed to have something to do with the seal not leaking
I asked about the Sanderson comp and adaptor brackets. turns out they cost less than what I paid to have the A6 rebuilt.

Well that's good to hear that they fixed it out of warrenty. That wick really helps to stop the oil from misting out from the front of the compressor. Hard to keep a detailed engine bay with oil constantly being sprayed from the comp every time it engages.
