Hi guys and thanks for reading. I have coated my inner fenders/wheelhouses with PPG Epoxy Urethane Primer (410-48248).

I want to paint them with the Eastwood underhood black (lacquer).

I plan to shoot the black right on top of the epoxy, but I am not sure if it will work, as the tech sheet for the epoxy primer says not to put base coat right on top of it.

    The Eastwood site says: FAQs

    Q. How do I apply this underhood paint?
    A. Surface must be clean, dry, and free of dirt, grease and oil. For maximum protection, first prime with a self-etching primer or epoxy primer before top-coating. For best results, use when can is between 70 and 90 degrees F. This engine-compartment paint may be used over bare metal, self-etching primer, or Rust Encapsulator.

Can anyone confirm one way or the other? Thank you.

Sand what you have primed with 220 dry or wet ,then get some ppg DP90 epoxy mix 4-1-1.5 and apply two coats, then apply topcoat of choice. I wouldn't use the lacquer get some SEM hot rod black, it's cheap and very good product, lays down even and smooth when cut with a little more reducer. Avoid moisture and or humid days and you'll be fine try to heat area to at least 75

I am restoring a car and will finish it in lacquer. My mentor has instructed me to use PPG DP40LF over the sanded body. I sanded mine to about 90% bare metal and 10% factory primer.
Once all the body work and blocking is done, re-coat with DP40LF coat with PPG K36. One the K36 is sanded and every panel is perfectly straight, apply the lacquer.

Check all the tech sheets to be sure you apply each material within the time period(s) specified. For example, DP40LF needs to be top coated with a week, or else you have to re-sand and reapply. Timing is important.

    Good luck.

I have used the Eastwood underhood black and found out it to be a good product. It is on the thin side so you will end up using more than you expect but durability has been good for me. You do need to prep correctly.

Thanks for all your replies. I think I will go with 2k urethane.
