I RAN INTO A GUY AT A LOCAL SHOW WHO TOLD ME ABOUT THIS SITEAND I AM TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO USE IT! IF I MESS UP PLEASE FEEL FREE TO SET ME STRAIGHT! I HAVE ALLWAYS BEEN A CHEVY GUY, MAINLY SMALL BLOCKS AND ABOUT 4 YRS AGO I GOT OFFERED TOO MUCH MONEY FOR THE 69 NOVA I WAS BUILDING AND SOLD IT. I FOUND THIS 1972 SKYLARK SITTING IN A BARN IN NORTHERN IN. AND COULD NOT BELIEVE THAT IT HAD ALLMOST NO RUST! AFTER DICKERING WITH THE GUY FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS WE AGREED UPON A PRICE. I TOOK IT HOME AND STARTED TEARING IT APART AND THEN STARTED LOOKING FOR PARTS! TALK ABOUT STICKER SHOCK!! ALSO FOUND OUT WHAT ITS LIKE LOOKING FOR HEN'S TEETH! WELL 4 YRS 100'S OF HOURS AND A TON OF CASH LATER I HAD THE ONLY 455 STAGE 1 4 SPEED IN TOWN! I HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT SELLING AND GOING BACK TO CHEVYS DUE TO COST BUT I'M GOING TO TAKE THE WINTER AND LOOK FOR PARTS TO MAKE IT A KIND OF GS/SS CLONE AND SWITCH TO AN AUTOMATIC AS I'M GETTING TO OLD FOR CLUTCH CALF! ANY INFO OR COMMENTS WELCOME. I TRIED TO POST A PICTURE OF IT BUT CAN'T GET IT TO WORK. MAYBE I'LL FIGURE IT OUT LATER. JAKE

Nice car Jake. Big block 4 speeds rock. You might think you can go back to ordinary Chevs but you can't. It's too difficult to go back to driving anything else after driving a Buick. I have 2 cars, my '66 Electra and a "normal" everyday car which I decided not to sell so I wouldn't drive the Electra "too much" (whatever that means). Well the "other' car has cobwebs now and I drive my Electra every single day to work and where ever I have to go. People think I'm crazy but when there a perfectly good Buick available why would you drive something (anything) else? I get to participate in my hobby everyday on the way to and from work. Come to think of it I'm typing this at work so I guess I get to participate in my hobby all the time. I'd say I have V8Buick open at least 18 hours a day. That says something both for this board and the people who participate in it.

Welcome to the board also by the way. If I could make one suggestion it would be to not use all capitals when typing. It has been proven to be more difficult to read than normal writing. Some people think it is like SHOUTING.

In any case, hang around and don't think of our parts as expensive but think of the other parts as being so common that they are cheap. Anyway, who's counting the cost anyway? Cars are rarely (if ever) an investment in anything but enjoyment. Enjoy your Buick and join in the conversations often. You'll find that Buick folks are tremendously friendly and helpful people (ask me how I know) as opposed to other owners who are often indifferent to anyone elses story and/or problem apart from their own.

Please! from one Jake to another! Do not convert such a rare 4 spd car to an automatic. Sell the 4 spd to someone who will really enjoy it for what it is and find a nice auto for yourself. I see soo many (comparitively speaking) automatic cars for sale. But the 4 speed stuff is like hens teeth. You see cars that were originally 4 spds and coverted once and a while for sale (one on E bay now, I think)

    Nice car! Good Luck!

:stmad: Thought I would check in and see what was going on. My thanks to Buickstreet, Alan and the Dinosaur gang and Jake 350 for your welcome and comments. I still have the green monster and hope to make up my mind by spring. I still want an old VET but maybe I can keep the Buick and make changes as I get time and money. First I have to find an old vet that I can afford! Details Details! I still am hunting for buckets, tilt column and a console that will fit in the Buick. Parts or ideas welcome! Also looking for a place to get my valve covers and metal part of air cleaner chromed. Any suggestions? Got to go!

Welcome Jake! Don't ditch the 4 speed! Is it an original 4 speed car? If so, heed the advice, of course, it's your car :) , but I would not hack up an original 4 speed car, unless you are fully intending on making any changes completely reversible and saving ALL the original stuff for the next owner. :TU:
