Not a mechanic here, but I can do minor repairs. Got a '73 Buick Estate wagon and I can see coolant pooling on top of the engine right behind the distributor. I cannot tell where it is coming from. Rarely do I see any coolant on the ground, and hoses seem tight and fine. Where could this be coming from? Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

You mentioned that the hoses seem fine, so if you don’t have a bad gasket on the upper radiator hose thermostat housing, you might have one on the upper water pump gasket. If it’s neither of those, the front manifold gasket might be the culprit. I don’t know which engine you’re referring to so my observations may be a bit off target but, in any event, it’s my considered opinion (based on similar experiences) that a gasket is somehow involved.

Thermostat gasket is leaking quite common The puddles on the edge of the intake manifold and then hits the timing cover.

What I've done in a past is snug the two bolts sometimes that will fix the leak if not you will have to replace the gasket.
