Sears Hardware stores were a great resource for all but the 3/4” red pinch but they are all out of business around me.
Thanks Brett. I have a great hardware store near me. What size would I use on the bypass, 7/8" or 1"?
Dave, Yeah I was meaning to write by-pass hose. Adam, I checked my notes and the 72 cars are like the 71's so they would be the same as pictured in Dave's drawing. So you need the tower clamps for the radiator hoses and the wire loop ones "rabbit ears" for the heater hoses. I got my Clamps from Ames Performance. They are a Pontiac GTO vender. If you download their new catalogue all the hose clamp options they sell are on a single page. Nick had me buy 2 1/16" tower clamps for the radiator hoses because he said they fit a little tighter. Therefore I ordered mine a-la-carte, instead of the kits they sell. I believe the kits use the larger 2 1/4" size. I don't know were Nick gets the by-pass clamps but you can get them from Dave (copperheadgs1) and he is right, I do remember Kleiner saying he used the smaller size clamp so it fits tighter. I also remember him telling me to put some "Indian Shellac" or something like that, inside the hoses where they attach to the parts. It is basically a thin cement which will help seal the joints from leaking. Hope this helps. Duane
Funny companies sell you 2 1/4 tower clamps. Originals were 2 1/16”. I have taken some off. The AMK company has done some pretty good research. They list their parts with original GM part numbers. They list 2 1/16 tower clamp with the GM part number same as Buick Assembly manual. I know some like Olds used a bigger tower clamp at the water pump. Not so with Buick which used all 4 the same. I have used the Indian Head Sealer and it works fine. Especially in the new heater core if you use one. The new style nozzles suck. They don’t seal well. Not at all like originals. That is why people go with the worm clamps.
Those aren’t NOS they are NNS. Originals had sharp right angle ears. New ones have rounded ears. I am guessing mechanics were ripping their hands and wrists apart in the sharp edges.
NNS would be New New Stock and not NOS which is New Old Stock That's a lot of the troubles people fall into with restorations. A lot of times the "parts" that are available now are not the same as NOS, plus many of the NOS pieces are not the same as what was installed on the cars............................so you end up with pieces that are a copy of a copy of the parts that actually went on the cars. If you look at the pic I posted earlier you will see that all my hose clamps have the correct 90 degree corners on the tabs. That is because they were all original clamps. (Not that anyone really cares.) Duane PS. If we took points off for everything that was not exact on the cars no one would get an award. Just as an example, how many cars are still wearing original tires. I only know of 2. That type of Judging is what the Corvette guys go thru. We have gone way out of our way to avoid that.
Good news. Looks like manufacturer may have gone back to black color for the 15/16 bypass clamps. I have both green and black for those. Not to turn this into sales thread but just trying to help guys out for no gain. Smartin I can supply you with entire set for heater and bypass hoses for $15 shipped. You have first choice. I have 4 sets of bypass clamps as well for $7 shipped US. Two sets green and two sets black your choice.
