Do these clips look correct in appearance and finish? I have all my originals, but if I could replace with new correct looking ones it would save the hassle of cleaning and refinishing the old ones. Thanks.
No, those are not the correct finish on the fuel/brake line clips. And that kit is readily available in the aftermarket www.inlinetube.com JW
I am just about done restoring a 72 gs stage 1 conv. I ordered all the lines and clips from inline. The gas line clips were not correct and I had to refinish my originals. So keep all your pieces and check them against any kit you order. Refinishing is really not a big deal as they typically blast up easily. Have fun!! If you have any questions, feel free to drop me a line. It has taken far longer then I expected. Mine was a frame off redo. If I had it to do over, I would definitely go this route and I would absolutely powder coat everything I could. Saves a bunch of time and money vs painting and I think it not only looks great, but performs much better then paint. The good powder coaters can get the color match to be just about perfect. Mike
I refinished my original brake/fuel line clips by blasting and painting.... This is the correct color for '66. Some of the other clips were refinished with a black oxide or silver zinc.
Walt, I see you use IES products. :TU: We use quite a few of their products in the bodyshop and every one we have tried is superior to other brands such as 3M, Fusor, etc.
Those clips look nice, Walt! I don't recall my originals showing any green. Only the auto trans line clip (that 4-speed cars got anyway) is that color, I believe. I have an NOS one of those. I have to go look, but I think most of the brake/fuel clips were probably zinc. But out of curiousity, where do you get the IES products?
Ken, The color on that picture is a little off. The larger brake/fuel line clips are blue, but the smaller clips are more like a light see-through green color. Duane
KEN---Here's a start: http://www.internationalepoxies.com/products.htm You can also go to a marine supply(boat stuff) place and get the green stuff for use on boat parts....OMC (Outboard Marine) or someone like that packages this stuff up with their name on the cans. It's easy stuff to spot--just look for that green cap! Patton
By the way, the yellow clips were the ones that Inline tube does not have correct. Both the color and diameter of the area the tube goes through. Save your old ones and the replacements they sent were also wrong. It cost me 3 shipping fees and the headache to sort through this. In addition, they told me I was wrong!!
Seems like Inline Tube are the experts and the real world builders are the idiots. Ive been told more than one I was wrong by them and Ive read other peoples accounts of the same thing happening to them. I would stay as far away from Inline Tube as possible.
Duane- If you would help clarify.... I put letters A-D on the picture. If you could please put the correct color for the clips next to each clip type, I would be very grateful. :TU:
Ken, the IES products are sold by my local auto-paint supply store. The green zinc phosphate is correct for my '66. The other clips were either black oxide or silver zinc plated. Another source for items like these clips is http://www.restorationspecialties.com/ I don't know if they specificly have the clips you need. But, boy! they have alot of 'stuff'!
Yes, as Mike said, the fuel/brake combo line clips in the kit are not correct.. in my initial post on the subject here I should have specified that the kit that is on ebay, is that Inline kit.. with the incorrect fuel/brake combo clips. In the past, I have had good response working with Inline, I will be sending them an example of the correct clip in question, along with one of the ones I bought from them, and we will see if they have any interest in making the correct clip. If they question me, I will just email them a pic of the shop, with a dozen 70-72 GS's in it.. that should cure any question as to who's correct in this situation. And I am sure if we talk to the right person, we can get them to at least admit they are not concours correct. They did just begin making the trans line/frame clip recently.. although it has to be slightly modified and coated to be an exact match to the OE, but it is a workable situation. We will see. JW
How about these clips from AMK products? (thanks Jim!) Look on page 150.... http://www.amkproducts.com/Catalog_PDF/142-158.pdf
Unless I missed it, they don't have the clip we are discussing here for the 70-72 cars, but do have many of the others. JW
