Guys if you need one in hurry, just buy a large yellow paper sticker at an office supply store, tape it to a piece of paper and run it through your computer printer and print the 2 letter code in the middle of the yellow label. Then cut out around the 2 letters you just printed by using an oval pattern from an original if you have one, and just do it by eye, it's very easy. I've made about a dozen over the years (but probably had to make 24 to get 12 good ones). It is so far down in the engine compartment that it will still look great even if it isn't absolutely perfect. Ground up restorations (a chevy restoration parts place) sells these stickers but only with Chevy codes. Not sure if any were the same as Buicks. We also got some blanks from them as well.

Here is a picture of a homemade label I made for a '70 Stage 1 my Dad did a while back.

Small world Bruce as that is the pic I had on file to send to Duane.

For those of us that have non-Flint cars and were lucky enough to find a buildsheet the code is in box 20. For our Fremont built '72 Stage 1 the code is "DV" (this car has the optional N41 fast ratio PS).

Duane PM me your address so I can send you copies of this and a few other buildsheets I have.

Duane, for your records in case you do these stickers, for all 1972 Buick A-bodies the code for the regular N40 power steering was apparently coded as "BZ" as shown in the picture I posted above from my Skylark and also shown on this buildsheet from John Diaz's former '72 GS 455 that was built in Fremont.

My apologies. Smartin is correct that I did confuse your Board name with Bruce's as they are close.

Page # 9-3.2 of the 71 assmbly manual shows this DV code for a GS 455 with N41 option. This is not in the 70 manual. I din't think this was unique to GSX's and not sure if it was even still available in 71? Maybe a late 70 option that just got carried over in the printed pages.

Regular code for power steering in 71 was also BZ and manual steering is BV. Thanks Duane if you make them. I tried to make some out of yellow price stickers that i cut using oval templates but the sticky stuff didn't last too long as the steering box gets oily fast. Make em good and sticky thanks.

I saw that but never saw the N41 definition. I assume it is a quick or variable ratio option. There is no question but that the GSX box in 70 carries a separate part number from the PS GS cars.

I have all the 70-72 codes documented, and will dig them up within the next week or two.

To be honest I usually do not put any glue on my stickers because the glue that is available to me does not hold up. Some guys use contact cement to affix the decals, but make sure you place them correctly, because once they're on that's it.

    Yeah yeah I hear ya.
I already make most of the ones that nobody else does. (Brake booster/master cylinder, Frame decal, F&R Shocks, Springs, and Swaybars)

When I get a break I will look into the steering box stickers. I already told Jim that I would.

Next you guys will want the throttle cable stickers, then the ones on the driverside valve cover, then the "date coded" wiper motor stickers, then the 72 front brake stickers, then the ones for the 71-72 proportioning valves, then.....................

Sounds like a winter project :Dou:

The valve cover stickers would be a good seller!

    Thanks Adam.
The only problem is the number of combinations needed for each year. There were something like 30-35 different combo's for 1972 V-8 motors alone. So the question is, is it worth doing or do we continue to ignore their "absence" on the show field? Most people don't even know they existed.

    Duane,

Do you make the brake proportioning valve i.d. tag for '71? I have a sample if you 'd like.
