any pictures of the way a stock should appear (70-72). 455 Block, manifold w.p. pan , manifold etc.:3gears:
I believe someone in Europe did that. For some reason, I thought Bad Boattail Erik referred to it as being from there... Awesome shot though!
That is a beautiful picture. But... -The flexible duct from the exhaust manifold to the air cleaner should be black -The pulley on the alternator should be gold cad -The alternator bracket should be natural steel in color (I think) -The throttle return spring should be a slight greenish tint I believe the above is correct. I'm sure I'll be corrected if it's not!
This is a really useful photo! I'm gearing up to pull the 350 from my car in the Spring & detail it & the engine bay. It's been in there 33 years, lots of grease under it! '71 350 4V look about the same?
One more question on the engine. the date coded pplug wires available thru suppliers.....do they have the 45 deg. boots at the distributor end like those shown? I find the 90 deg. wires a real squeeze to fit on.
YO sells the date coded wires in quarter year increments as I recall. Many of the warm up tube ducts are black although I have seen them silver like depicted. My impression is that they were originally black not silver but I would not swear to that. The carb return spring shoud be dark green. The alternator pulley and fan should be gold cad. Dipstick and tube should be natural not silver . The AC bracket and end alt bracket bolt and the power steering bolts are depicted silver . Most I have seen are black. I do not know which is correct.
Unless proven otherwise, I BELIEVE that this is a factory photo. Of course, I would not be at all surprised if the motor used had non-stock pieces, such as silver return spring instead of green... My understanding is that factory hot air ducts were black, which is hard to find now (my local Auto Zone had one!!!).
I agree, the PRODUCTION alternator bracket is natural (see my above post) I talked to Duane about alternator pulleys and it seems not all were gold cad--some were silver zinc?
I have an unrestored, true survivor 70 455 GS that I use for reference. On this car the alternator pulley is not gold cadium, it is silver zinc color. Most of the gold cad pulleys you see today on restored cars have been done over for appearance. Dennis
it appears that the Netherlands Riv club knows that this pic is not original nor from GM. from this page: http://www.buick-riviera.com/engines.html if you mouse over the pic (allow your mouse to come to a stop for ~1 sec) on the original page it's coded to bring up a text tag that says "a restored 73 engine". an excellent job of photography nonetheless.
