What glass type was originally installed on my GS? What type looks best? The glass I'm replacing was clear but the glass guys says the green tint with the strip was the original glass. Any advice would be great.

    Thanks,
    Mike

Shaded windshields were optional. Clear glass was the standard. Your glass guy doesn't know what he's talking about.

Brad is correct. Does your car have AC, the "majority" of cars with AC also were ordered with tinted glass, but...not always... You could also order just a tinted windshield and not all tinted windows. AC was not required for tinted glass.

He said three types are available, but I didn't totally understand. I'm thinking clear, tinted green with top shade and clear with top shade. Mine is a Stage 1 without AC, and almost certainly a CA car.

My '68 is a no A/C car and its windshield is clear-no strip.

First quote $495 installed. Safelite said no can do. Waiting on my second quote. The first one seemed high, but I am in SoCal......

How can I tell if the one I'm removing was the original?

It looks like the date code CX is November 1968, what is the build date code on your cowl tag?
    I would expect to see a cowl date code of 11 A thru D or 12A, B or C.

This is the site I used for date code info

I agree with Mike...November 1968 date code. To me, that looks to be original glass.

    4th week (D) of January(01) , 1969.

01D = 4th week of January, 1969. Your windshield may have been made at the end of November and between shipping to the factory and production needs it was installed in January.

In my morning talk with Duane, he also pointed out you will need a NON-ANTENNA windshield and not one with with the antenna wires in it. Glass pretty much interchanged from 1968-1972 and from 1970 through 1972, the antenna's were imbedded in the front windshield. Later years were also standard that way too.

Thanks for all the help guys. Hopefully the guy I'm working with will be able to locate a clear one without an antenna.
