Need some feedback regarding insurance. I currently have American Family and my premiums have increased greatly. No tickets or accidents. My 21 yr old grandson lives with us and his mom. Everyone has a FICO over 700. I called Allstate and they are 40% cheaper on all 5 vehicles. My question is: any issues with Allstate??.. I have never been a fan of Allstate (no resaon). Thinking about switch both home and autos. Any thoughts??

    Thanks

Allstate is one of the big old ins companies, there should be no problems. Personally I'm a State Farm guy, I can recommend them too.

I have Allstate. I have had no claims with them, but they were substantially cheaper then my previous company that also raised our rates significantly with no reason.

I and my family have been with them since the ‘80s, have had no reason to change. My agent is also a Hagerty agent, so moving my GS and El Camino was easy, too.

For the same coverage I found Geico was way cheaper than All State. Online only but never had an issue dealing with Massachusetts RMV forms etc The web site is easy to use for getting a quote and managing vehicles. Changed several vehicles over the last few years and was a piece of cake to get it done. For the handful of time I called them the call was answered quickly and I what I needed was dealt with in short order.

Never had to claim so can't attest to service in that case.

I’ve had two vehicle claims because of hail with geico and I thought they handled both well. Paid out a large chunk for my wife’s car and totaled my truck out and gave me a more than fair amount of money for it while “selling” it back to me for pennies.

This is a very timely thread. I had been with State Farm for over 40 years for boat, home, and cars. But, over the past few years they had increased my premiums steadily to the point that I started shopping. Two years ago I left State Farm for another company (Allstate doesn't insure homes in Florida any longer) and saved over $800 a year.

Just last month I got my renewals for our two cars (not the Buick) and the premiums went up again so, I contacted several companies including Allstate. Their premium for identical coverage was about $1000 a year less for the same coverage. I am now an Allstate insured. I spoke with several of the paint and body shops I deal with as to how Allstate treated their customers claims. Both said they were fine and on par with other insurance companies so, I'm comfortable with our decision.

Smokey15 So old that I use AARP bolts.

We had Liberty Mutual for years. They kept increasing our premiums a bit each year until, one year, it went way too much. They were very good with the very few claims we had. We now have Fremont Insurance through our insurance broker, Trumbull Agency. Very good coverage for less $$.

Low cost = low aftermarket not just aftermarket.
Said with many years of dealing with insurance companies in the collision industry.
We have state farm 3 times the coverage, same cost as our old Progressive.

Totally disagree. Before leaving State Farm who we had been with for over 40 years I analyzed every coverage on our State Farm policy and priced identical coverage with Allstate. I also read both policies and both have accident forgiveness, and about a dozen other discounts with similar names. But, coverage is identical. Difference is $2800 a year vs. $1900 a year. My State Farm agent admitted that many people were leaving State Farm because of their rate structure and that he had attended a recent meeting where they had announced that they would be restructuring their rates in the near future and he would try to get me back when that happened.

Been with Geico for about seven years. They have all my business including home and umbrella, but not the Buick. The customer service for day to day business has been excellent with only a couple of knuckleheaded exceptions on their part. I talk to them several times a year because I have a part time driver showing up a few times a year, so I put a vehicle in "storage" for eight disconnected months a year. I'd give 95 out of 100. You will get certain discounts for certain associations. If you didn't know, they are Government Employee Insurance Company - government employees get some of their best discounts but they do have many other discounts the underwriters have considered. If you take National Geographic or Air Space Magazine, for instance, there is an associated discount. I guess the underwriters have determined those magazine subscribers are a better risk than guys reading Bikes & Chicks. We've had a few instances of my young drivers in minor collisions. The last one didn't result in a change to his rates - that surprised and pleased me.
