...hmmm, there are printers that cut stencil patterns. Started looking into them for patterns to reverse paint glass on antique Coca Cola clock I'm restoring, but got sidetracked and don't know much about them...
Well I have purchased dash wood grain kit Speedway and I will report back. After getting the thumbs on it from Adam I ran with it!
Okay, I'm the guinea pig!! The ones I got from Speedway are not like the originals! The wood grain is nice but the whole decal shows light thru!! I will be tossing these in the circular file! Very disappointed!
Next best is the new CARS ones with the questionable woodgrain. I just checked the letters with a flashlight, and ONLY the letters show light.
I see your point on this, as you told me the back light to you was not an issue, but the wood grain is very nice, I will forward these to you if I don't use them NC, AL.
AL, why can't you just black out what you don't want to show through. Must be a few ways you can do that.
Larry, not a problem, it's just when I had the conversation with Phil we were clear on what was being offered. The solotion is easier then what you suggested, I still have the black original over lay on the car and do like I did last time and leave the old black overlay in place and line up the new, it's jusst not as bright. I will say the wood grain in very nice and the sheen of the material is nice it's just the back lighting part! They all most made it to the 30 yard line!!
Any news on the ones Todd is offering, Are they back lit correctly being the letters only with a green tint?
I think I posted a pic earlier, but here is another. The only woodgrain that looks really bad is the lights/wiper side. The whole thing is still a bit “cartoony” for realistic woodgrain.
Wow, that's terrible. I had not seen this before. If I were to judge, -1 point for that. TPP really needs to correct that.
TPP really needs to correct a lot of things. Could you be a pal and ring Joe and discuss? I guarantee it will turn into one of those “hollering” phone calls.
Anybody that puts that out as a restoration item should be ashamed. I hate to see CARS go down that path. And NO!! I will not call Joe (again) and get into (yet another) shouting match.
As I posted earlier Adam was right on the Speedway kit, the wood grain is nice and the sheen looks correct but they missed the mark on the back lighting. As I told Larry I will probably use the Speedway kit and place the transfer over the the original because it has the correct blue/green under side over lay. Larry suggested using the LED bulb that looks like a good idea!
I bought an assortment like this a while back. Different colors and they work great, just have to get the polarity correct. https://www.amazon.com/EDGELEC-LED-...+light+bulb+assortment&qid=1586704863&sr=8-16 https://www.amazon.com/120PCS-Color...7&sr=1-3-dd5817a1-1ba7-46c2-8996-f96e7b0f409c
On the CARS kit, the climate control is the only piece that has the blue/green back light. Everything else is just clear.
