I have a 1969 430 that I believe to be complete and original. I will eventually have JW build a 448 with this core. The casting # on the quadrajet is 29241 ME 0099. Is this the correct carb for 1969 430? Is it a good candidate for a performance rebuild?

This will into my 1969 Skylark with a 4L80E transmission.

    Thanks

The correct carburetor is 7029240. The 7029241 would normally be the carburetor for a manual transmission equipped car being the last number is a 1, an odd number. Even numbers are automatic equipped vehicles. ME would be a production code, and 0099 would be the 9th day of 1969.

The 29241 was a 430 Riviera only Quadrajet. The "70" on the stamp is missing which was common on 69 Quadrajets.

Is it a good candidate for performance? Not bad, but for a Buick I would go with a 71-74 800 cfm unit.

Since it is 1969 it will have the later float arrangement and is far superior for performance work than the 1968 and older units. It will easily support a 430 build w/o any trouble as they are 750cfm castings. The biggest advantage to the 71-74 455 carburetors Mark mentioned is more cfm on the primary side of the carburetor. They provide more cfm and additional power for "spirited" driving w/o using the secondaries. I doubt on most street engines you would ever know which one was being used otherwise. IF you are building a really high HP set-up and drag racing then for sure go with the larger 71-74 455 models, but keep in mind we have the smaller 750cfm carburetors running well into the 9's in legal Super Stock applications.......Cliff

My stock 68 carb on my 68 Riv felt more responsive on take off and getting up to freeway speed. But noticeably less pull for passing gear than a 800 cfm unit i had run. I am not a fan of the 68 750, secondary lock out is weird, accelerator pump wat is that an air , vapor bleed off round rubber on spring metal that lifts when you step on it? I did something to it when i first started learning on the quad jet that turned the main body white and frosty when i fired it up. That was interesting.
