IMG_3367.JPG If you read my book it mentions the excellent early Buick 71-74 455 carburetors. They are the only divorced choke big CFM Q-jets and make EXCELLENT street and street/strip carburetors. Even with that said the 1976 and later variety are even better. Same cfm rating (they actually flow 849cfm if you grind the stop correctly and duplicate the open angle of the Edelbrock 1910 850cfm units), they have APT that is easly accessed down thru the airhorn, and will easily convert to electric choke so they will work flawlessly on any intake or with no intake heat crossover.

I use a plain old 1977 Pontiac Q-jet on my engine converted to E-choke. It has never had a grinder or sanding roll touch it, and to date NOTHING we've ever tested will outrun it, dyno or at the track. It's been flawless for decades, and put my car in the finals scores of times at some pretty big races including 5 wins at the Pontiac Nat's at Norwalk with two trips to the King of the Hill Race (last man standing). I've also won several pretty big street car events, and countless wins at local track including quite a few Gamblers races both "box" and "no-box".

Not recommending here that anyone run out and replace what they have with a Q-jet, just trying to put up some useable and accurate information if you want to venture in that direction..........
