Got the ol' girl fired up and got her all safe for the road with new brakes, suspension & steering and new fuel tank & sender. We couldn't keep fuel at the carb to keep her running so we gave her a new fuel pump. Still having issues and have determined it to be the carburetor that has been sitting for several years. At this point, I just want to drive her as soon as possible with as little $$$ thrown at her as possible. I prefer not to rebuild the existing carb and just simply replace it with a new or rebuilt carb. Considering no other mods have been made, or preferred at the moment, what are my options for a direct-fit carb? Thanks in advance!
Send your carb to Quadrajet Power for a professional performance build. New isn't going to necessarily be a correct swap as those builders will have to find a core. And wether or not it's inspected carefully is just a guess. He might even have a core he can build . Can't hurt to send an email with questions
Thanks for the input! :TU: Just chatted with them online. He has no 2BBL cores. Waiting on a reply now regarding the cost to rebuild the existing one.
Well, I was able to find a rebuilt carb @ a local parts store... unfortunately, it runs worse than the tired factory one. Guess I'll give QP a buzz again. Anyone have any luck finding a factory 4bbl intake? I understand that this is the only real option out there since no one makes an aftermarket manifold.
I have a two barrel off a 66 300 that was working ok, just needed a new plunger on the pump. If you need it for a core to send off let me know. Right now it's only holding down a spot on my shelf.
I just went ahead and sent mine in to Mark for rebuilding since it was already off the car. Thanks for the offer! Al Just let me know what you find, Mark. Thanks! Al
I had the same issue with my 300 rebuilt the 2 barrel had throttle shaft play and vacume leak. I went to auto parts store bought a reman ran worse than the one I took off. So my cheap quick solution was I bought a 2 barrel to to barrel adapter flipped it upside down and mounted an extra holley 4 barrel on the 2 barrel manifold. This worked great it has been this way for 10 years. The only thing to watch out for was hood clearance. I used a drop base aircleaner and ground some of the ears of a the wing nut. I thought I had enough clearance but put two small dimples in my freshly painted hood. So I ground some of the wing nut. The car pulls great no stumbles or anything.
What is the code on your new 340-4?? If I remember right there was a higher compression version with the NB code, and a standard version (I don't know the code). I have the higher compression 10.25 version with the NB code and felt lucky to find one...
Should be nb as well it's a 4 barrel so it's the 10.25 motor. This will put my 340 back to as close to original as possible without out funding the original motor. I have had my gs for 19 years now me dad helped me restore it when I was 15. It was my first car and daily driver through high school.
