I still haven't installed my rebuilt distributor yet but I just bought an AC Delco condenser and point set (two pieces) from Rock Auto which I'll install into it.

Also I came across a web site called Top Street performance and bought a steel distributor gear for $10.00 plus shipping and tax, $19.74 total. I'm not sure how good a quality it is but I bought. I'll see how it looks when it arrives. The one on my distributor now looks ok but if this one is better I'll use it.

    I'm hoping I didn't buy a boat anchor!

I'll be interested in see how this works out for that kind of money:

By the way, if your current gear looks fine and was the one that has been in the car forever with the factory cam, I'd leave it in there because they have worked themselves together nicely. If it was just some random gear in there then I'd go with the new one.

The distributor that's in my'72 Skylark now is not the correct one so I picked up the correct on and rebuilt it. The gear that came with it is ok but not 100%. I don't know what the gear is like that's in the car right now so I thought I'd have a new one on hand when I switch the two.

I'll take a photo of the gear and post it when I get it.

    Thanks.

Great suggestion Mike about reusing the gear that's in the car now. If it looks good I'll do that.

I recived the new gear that I ordered, looks ok not sure if I'm going to use it, it'll depend if the old one is ok or not.

Funny thing Top Street performance is located in Santa Fa Springs, CA just about 5 miles from Whittier, CA where I Live. Here's a photo of the gear.

Looking at it reminds me of the hei gear.Could be wrong but I believe the later model carried the larger pin.

Your good Mike, after reading your post I went to check the pin hole size and your correct the diameter is larger then the stock one I have. the stock gear takes a 1/8" roll pin the gear I bought takes a larger one. Oh well, I just hang onto it, I may need it in the future.
