I see TPP sells the chrome backing plates...but is there anyone who has the actual arm rests?

    Adam,
We call these 16" armrests, and yes they are also original on Impalas and 70 GS's with the deluxe interiors.

If the repros are like the originals, you should be able to install the chrome strips back in them.

Thanks, guys. I'm thinking ahead at this point. I'm hoping I can use the originals, but not counting on it. I know I need the backing plates since these are toast.

I've been there not long ago so maybe my experience is helpful.

The available 16'' armrest bases are from OER and are available in black only, other colors need to be painted. I've produced excellent results using SEM paint topped by a coat of Ames Pearl top coat for that metallic hue the pearl white interior has.
The OER bases fit quite well and even better if you sand down one edge a little (the plane which touches the door panel is not really flat).

The 16'' armrest pads are available in various colors and are supplied by PUI. They do not have a metal backing as the original ones and I found them to fit quite poor on the armrest bases, both on the original and the OER one.
I ended up re-using the metal backing and the foam, both were in good shape, and covered them with new material from legendary interiors. The old lining could be removed quite easily. I am really happy with the results.

Here is a comparison of the PUI pad (upper) with the original (lower):
