Hopefuly I'm one step closer to resolving my cooling down my high temp problems . I did have a GN electric cooling fan assembly.

A 95 Dodge Intrepid cooling fan assembly

The lower mount, I used a GN's Electric Fan lower mount plate and added U-joint straps between it and the fanshroud, I drilled holes in the fanshoud and mounted the straps to it. I did have to flip the plate backwards, when installed the first time it pushed the bottom of the assembly out at the bottom.( the plates tabs have a step out in them, so the step out faces the radiator now)

This pic is of the upper mounting point , I used a GN radiator cover plate and the studs on it, and trimmed out a notch in the fan shroud to slide it back closer to the radiator, drilled the holes in the shroud and reinstalled the studs.

Here's couple pics of it installed. Remember no fabbing just reused exsisting parts.

    Kinda looks factory to me.

    Started the wiring last night.

Are those variable speed fans like the Mark 8's or single speed?

    Looks like a clean install.

    Thanks Stage -2 Torque !!!

On the varible speeds.... yes and no .

They do have only one fan motor that is a HI/LO speed set up, that's the one on the passenger side, the drivers side on is HI only.
So I wired them both, to be on HI only.

I may in the future do a third relay and run the LO one at high way speeds.

I did get the wiring done on the fans, man do they move some air, yes loud sounds like one of those carwash place's big vacums, kinda drones and vibrates the Regal abit.

However found a small prob... they are now wired to go on when the ignition is switched on... because they draw so much current it's harder to turn the engine over, because those fans and the starter are fighting for the same juice.

So going to need a toggle switch for the ign switch lead and watch my temps, or a temp switch that turns on and off the fans at predetermined temps.

nice I used dual fans from a 90s maxima. They are both hi or low. Have setup to run both on low when key on and has toggle switch to run both on high. I have never needed to use high even on 100 degree cruise nights when barely crawling along. mine arent too loud on low and add lots of under hood room.

Coolness (to pun a phrase LOL).

My duals are currently wired to turn on (both) with the ignition key in the on position as well. This was done "temporarly" by Tyrone just to get me driving. I ordered the Derale Fan Controller Switch, and plan on having it installed sometime this month, God's-Will.

They should both be hi/low capable -- I used a set out of a 90's model Seibring ( same thing, just installed a tad bit differently ) and wired them up using a Hayden fan controller and they both operate at one rpm at a given temp and then switch to high at another temp. I assume you wired them in using relays right? Thats way too much amperage to pull on a small wire, will burn something up pretty quick this way. Do yourself a favor and buy a controller that will handle them now before you have a meltdown.

    Yep runnign relays.. 40 amps..

Got this info from my Turbo Buick GN buddy over on face book..
    ANd I also did

Ok well as long as you've got them wired to relays then you can control them however you wish. Just don't want you seeing your regal burst into flames one day! Us buick guys got to stick together!! :beer

May still do a controller of some sort, maybe this http://www.classicchevy.com/chevy-electric-cooling-fan-temperature-sending-switch.html and hard wire it in off the 3 position switch, and run a small L.E.D. light to tell me its turning on the 2 HI fans so I can shut off manually the LO single fan. don't know yet.

In the future I am going to run a 4-gauge wire from the Battery to a fused distribution block to power the relays.

For everyone's reference, the dual electric fans from that intrepid would also be found on Chrysler New Yorker, LHS, 300, Concorde and Eagle Vision. The way the factory runs the electric fans is with three relays. Both are powered at half speed (wired in series) but one fan is a 250w the other a 350w. The third relay is used to switch to full 12 power to each fan. I could dig up a wiring diagram if you interested.

Yes.. When you can a wiring diagram, is it for the newer model Intrepids , the 98-04's with the dual fans and the dual speeds?

As of now this is the way I have it wired up..

Mine came with no additional wiring, just the solenoid/relay box in the the middle between the fans, (CHECK OUT THE First picture in my thread) ( it had 3 wires , red, green, black going from it to the the big fan motor, and only two wires red and black to the small fan motor)no plug going into that solenoid/relay.

Does anyone know, was it suppose to remain in?

I cut mine out and hard wired the red and black wires from each motor to their own relays and they both turn on together, to me they seem to be the HIGH setting.

Then hard wired the green wire from the bigger motor to its own relay, when powered, it seemed not as strong.

I found out that using one of the blank spots in the fuse block for switched ignition source was making both my fans and starter fight for the same juice.

A freind of mine who owns a GN , made mention that there is a brown wire behind the glove box that has a female spade type plug on the end and it's not used in most Regals , it is for a power trunk release.
It is not energized when starting the car, thats when the key is all the way turned foward, so that's now my switched ignition source.

Now with that said I picked up and installed a 3 position switch one off and two ons.

I wired from that brown wire to that switch then from there two wires to the relays, one wire runs both relays for the HIGH fan , and the other runs the relay for LOW speed.

So now I have one fan running at normal speed for cruising on the highway or the backroads, and then if it gets to warm 0n temp gauge, I flip the switch and got now two fans running HIGH !

Haven't got the ole stuff flushed out of the cooling system yet, and I will be running distilled water and "Water Wetter", plus going to a 160* T-stat.

Also going to check my timing out ..again... still may have to much advance, going to what

LARRY70GS here on the board suggests doing to help insure good timming and better cooler running engine http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?63475-Power-Timing-your-Buick-V8&referrerid=589

I know in the past I've messed with the weights and springs in my distbutor, maybe somethings off there, I have a untouched "76" 455 distbutor, may pull the weights and springs from it and start over.

Also going to address where my vacum advance line is plugged into, ported or manifold vacum... (wich I think mine is, it has been recommended to run it that way VS ported) but going to relook..

So today I should have some progress...:pray:

... and since Volts X Amps = Watts, and we are given a total of 600w @ 12v, the total consumption will be at 50a. You better have a better-than-stock alt. to provide that in addition to everything else.

I do have a better than stock , running a CS style 140 amp Grand National alternator.

And here's the result of them Fans on High

This only with the old gutted t-stat , and was running for just under an hour to circulate the cooling system flush I poured in, round one...

    Round two.. the same thing.....

Upon cleaning up the carb using carb spray found two vacum leaks, one is a port I capped off with a vacum hose and a screw in the end of it, the hose got soft with heat, lost it's tight grip and basicly it was just hanging on there, and the heat also got to the choke pull off hose, with both replaced the ole Regal ran smoother sounded stronger. But still noticed that spraying the secondary throttle shaft from the outside on the passenger side with carb spray it did idle up, need that dealt with too.

But .... it F.....N never fails .. fix one prob another decides to show up.

Went to start it up to pull it in the garage, sounded like it was running on 5 cylinders, barely wanting to idle, had to give lots of gas and foot on the brake just to get it to move...

The DAMN thing is.... this the same problem I had with it in TN, two years ago causing it to come home on a trailer.. the same freaking exact thing to a tee.. never did figure it out... just one day went to start it and it ran smooth...

Thoughts? Ideas? .. needing some help here Thanks

I apologize for the delay. Here are partial wiring diagrams and different ways the fans are run between a "LH" and a Viper. I'm still trying to track down a paper manual so we can see the entire wiring diagram for the electric cooling fans.
