3am this morning my dogs go crazy barking, or one is going crazy and the other is just very agitated. I knew something was up so I walk outside and someone had tapped on my sons window asking for gas. He is a journalist and stays up late. I went outside and here is a guy no shirt and shorts on but 10 sizes too big at the waist. Said he had run out of gas and was looking for help. keep in mind that we live 600' off the main road. One dog is in the pen and she is still going crazy and then boy dog came around the corner (black boxer mix) the guy was climbing in the back of my truck. Let the dog stand at the door and told my son just to let him out if things seemed funny. While the guy did not seem to have bad intentions he seemed to be guilty of a bad decision. I did not want to over analysis it so I gave him a milk jug and reminded him that there was a store about a mile up the road. He asked for a ride and or gas for the jug. Usually I am willing to help anyone, but I was not comfortable with this; I asked him to be on his way. I gave him a few minutes and then rode out the rode with some gas in case he was genuine. No car anywhere. Called the local police and asked them to check it out. So I am thankful this was not worse, and big thanks for my pups for coming thru. Millie is a great Pyrenees mix and Boo is a boxer mix (mom boxer, dad traveling salesman). I have to keep Millie up because she is a wanderer, otherwise she would have been out.
running out of gas is a form of a scam used to burglarize houses..so is i think i ran over your dog...be careful
My daughter and I just had a discussion today about dogs and alarm systems, I am a firm believer in my dogs and there instincts. They also were good when my daughters were dating and having boys over. LOL
GOOD for you for being on guard as well! You're lucky jarmello wasn't dancing on the roof of the truck! While all this is going on you need to "be aware" of whats behind you as well. The new "movement" is dragging us with it and I dont like the final destination. ws
Black snake. Normally leave them alone but the dogs are younger and have never been around a snake, so I wanted them to get a taste of it. Black dog killed it but it took a while. he kept picking it up by the tail and shaking it, then as he was carrying it the snake would raise up and try to bite him, he would drop him and try again. Girl dog never got a taste of it but barked a million times.
Kerry, We have Australian Shepherd A mom and one of her male pups, my daughter and brother in law have 3 of the other pups from the litter. The Mom is the bravest and the best hunter of the group. The 6 year old Male is all bark and ran off when Mom was trying to pull a coon out from under our Deck. Its funny how different they can be even when in the same family.
If someone was in the back of my truck at my place he would'a heard the sound of a 12 gauge getting racked. Then I woulda shown him my backhoe...
I have a Great Pyrenees mix also ... 100+ lbs and a bark every bit as big. I don't know if you know this, but the Great Pyrenees are nocturnal (bred for protecting livestock from wolves and mtn. lions) and an ancient breed of dog. Mine alerts on a blade of grass falling in the yard ... good dog to depend on at night.
A friend of mine living in the country had a similar situation, guy came to the door saying he ran out of gas. Friend drove him to town, bought him a jug of gas and when they came back the guy insisted he would walk from the house, did not want a ride back to his car. Long story short, the guy was a sniffer, there was no car out of gas, the guy was just wandering and needed his fix.
I have read that about them. Also found out that they do well with established boundaries, and if they do not have them, they will keep going out until they find a boundary.
