I've bought a EGR valve delete kit and I'm all set to install it after I finish painting the motor but I've been doing a little research and found out that doing so may or may not may raise the running temperature of the motor and may or may not cause the engine to ping. The car is a '72 skylark 350-4 with smog pump and air conditioning removed. I'm keeping the PVC valve (I've gotten a new one) and breather from the valve cover to the air cleaner cover in place.

The EGR is 45 years old and I don't want to spend the money on a new one, their kind expensive.

    Thanks,

    Brad

I have 1972 Buick GS built in California but exported to Canada and it has no egr valve nor recirc pump. Runs fine.

I had my '76 350 that had the EGR AND AIR, and I blocked em off. Didn't seem to run any different, but I wasn't gonna spend money on new parts that weren't gonna make it more reliable or fast. Never went over 200 on my gauge. Check it every now and then, they can seep out. you'll notice little black soot marks if it does.

You can delete the EGR with no issues.
Early EGR systems such as yours (strictly vacuum operated) were problematic when new.

Thanks Mark, I've decided to take it off...
