Hi Everyone, What is the popular school of thought on swapping-in a 400 or 455 into a GS350? Specifically, I am wondering if it is a plus or minus in regard to the car's value. I have a 1969 GS350 with all original drivetrain and the car is fine as-is, no need to change anything. It's no show car by any stretch, believe me. However, I do admire the big block 69's, have never owned one, but sure would like to before I die, and the only way for me to afford that is through a power train swap. So my question is, does pulling the original drivetrain to swap-in a 400 or 455 dimish a GS350's value? Thanks for any insight or opinions.
Put the big block in and keep the original engine. If you ever sell the car,you can always reinstall the 350 or just give it to the new owner. My opinion is do what makes you happy. It's your car.
Just keep the numbers matching drivetrain around if you have any regrets, but you probably can't go wrong. I can hardly imagine what it would be like in a light A body car
Do it! You’ll really like how 510ft/lbs helps with merging and climbing hills. Keep the original just in case. Patrick
The parts aren't as readily available as once upon a time, but as above, you wont be able to wipe the ess eating grin off once you are able to drive it with big block power. I'd do it if it were mine.
I swapped a 455 in place of the 300 that was in my 66 Skylark. I can vouch for the ess eating grin I get now when driving it.
Had a gs350. loved that car plenty but putting my foot in the tank of my gs 455 is some serious fun. Rowing the gears of the suncoupe with a 455 transplant - priceless! Go for it !
Did a 455 / 200-4r / 3.42 posi gear swap on a Skylark 350-2 bbl/ TH-350/ 2.56 open. Night and day. No question. Just keep the original drivetrain, for future sake. The difference in the pleasure REALLY overcome the difference in the milage; Afterall, it is NOT your daily driver...
