Finished my motor (mainly) Still need to install, fill fluids, set timing, install and plumb the fuel system.

    First: Here it is.
    buick2.jpg

It's a stock rebuild for the most part.
    Heads were milled 0.010"
    Cylinders were bored 0.30"
The only upgrades are the shorty headers and a TA212 cam.

And, luckily enough,I did a pretty good job of documenting and remembering all of the bolts, and holes, and this and that. So I have very few left over parts and questions!

    But I wasn't perfect. So
#1 What the heck are these? I mean, I think they're temp sensors. They came back in my bucket o' bolts from the engine builder. Where do they go? IMG_20180318_140648.jpg
#2. What the heck is that hole? The two above pieces don't fit in.

    Thanks!

The hole is where the oil pressure sender goes. It is 1/4 NPT. They both look like temperature senders. The smaller one is cylinder head temperature typically only used on the big cars. It screwed into a blind hole on the back of one of the cylinder heads. It illuminated a hot/stop engine light. The bigger one looks like a regular temperature sender. It should fit into the intake. The stock temp sensor was 1/2 NPT though. Doesn't look that big.

Fitting on left is temp sender for drivers side , front of intake manifold. The other is a sensor that goes on the rear of the passenger head. Think it for temp as well? I'm sure someone knows what it's for. I do know it is often omitted.
The hole is for the oil pressure sensor.

Thanks! Of course, that opens up a new set of problems. As in, I seem to have misplaced the oil pressure sender...

In my 73, the switch that went in the rear of the right cylinder head turned the blower motor on low speed when the engine got to a certain temperature. There is no off position on the heater fan control. I believe that it was designed to pressurize the passenger compartment, possibly to eliminate exhaust from entering the car.

The oil sender for idiot lights is available at any parts store.

You mean the idiot light sender. Tell me you are using an oil pressure gauge:) It is not optional IMHO on ANY Buick.

In any case, the larger switch you pictured is the oil pressure idiot light sender. You said it didn't fit. I think you should try it again. Looks like 1/4 NPT to me.

X2, looks like it's 180* from where it should be.

I was noticing the same thing, as well as what looks like a lazy silicone goop job on the timing cover gasket. Hope it seals!

Easy there fellers! Everybody's a critic! :) I said I was mainly done. The distributor is just "resting" there so's to not get any debris down in the motor. I still have to fill it with fluids, prime the oiling system, set the timing, and install the efi. You'll also notice it's not actually sitting in the car, and it doesn't have the flexplate attached. sheesh...

It's all good bud, I don't think people are pointing things out to talk crap or otherwise knock you, mostly just pointing them out for your benefit and potentially the benefit of others that might not necessarily see it.

Speaking for myself, I do like to point out poor quality work that I see being done by professional shops and engine builders, because people should be aware of what they're getting for their money and should expect a certain standard of work for what they are paying. That's not any knock on you at all.

It’s good to want to keep debris out of the engine. Now cover up the carb pad on the intake lol

No it's not. My car doesn't even have AC. I had a 72 LeSabre no AC and it had the same thing. I'm pretty sure that it just pressurizes the passenger compartment to prevent fumes from coming in, but I don't really know. I got my car from my Grandfather and he installed a toggle switch in the dash to shut the motor off. He said that it was blowing heat into the car.

I just looked it up in my service manual. The switch closes at 140* and allows the blower fan to operate at low speed to "insure adequate ventilation of the passenger compartment".
