Pleasing exhaust sound is such a subjective thing. What sounds good to one person can be objectionable to another. Also, a muffler can sound different on another car with different valve timing, so you are always taking somewhat of a chance. I listened to other cars at cruises and decided on Magnaflow. I’m very happy with them.

    Exactly.

A buddy has the same mufflers as me on his 69 Camaro. It’s a 468 with headers and 2.5” exhaust. Sounds distinctly different.

    Turn your speakers up,

MT headers, dual 3" exhaust with X pipe. 14264 Magnaflow mufflers, 3" tailpipes and N25 tips. Hydraulic roller cam, specs in signature.

That's the added sound of the MT headers. In the rear, all you hear is whats left after the mufflers. I think it has a nice deep tone to it.

I'm sure it does. I need a new exhaust as i'm running an old flowmaster 50 system from '89. Back than that all there was...

The MT headers also contribute to the sound.

Sorry guys have been busy and completely forgot about this thread until today that I drove the car again!
I haven't owned so long but I'm sure the tail pipes are 2", and maybe there's a chance of this being the stock setup since the car was sitting since 1988 until I bough it. I'm planning to change the whole exhaust system since it is so rusted and ugly and some supports are starting to fail. I'm planning to go with a 2 1/2" setup.

That's not the kind of sound I'm looking for , is more like the opposite to what I'm looking.

A better description of what I'm looking for is the following video but just I don't want it to be so loud

    Or this:

Go to https://classicmusclecarexhaust.com/. You can compare the different systems from Pypes, MagnaFlow, and Flowmaster and listen to sound clips for each of the systems. Dynomax mufflers are also offered. The Exhaust 101 section can also help give you direction in choosing which system and/or mufflers to go with. There has been some good advice posted in this thread- a 'good sounding muffler' is in the ear of the beholder, and no two cars sound alike, even with the same system. Even changes in induction or exhaust tips can change the sound of a system. Things to consider- an X-pipe will change the way your engine sounds, slightly quieter but with a smoother tone like a modern car. An H-pipe generally helps with low end torque and slightly evens out the exhaust pulses. MagnaFlow makes an X-pipe system, Flowmaster makes an H-pipe system, and Pypes offers both X-pipe and straight dual systems. You can buy both Pypes and FM without mufflers so you can use any muffler you want.
