Went to local HS football game at 9pm to see last 1/2 hour. I park next to this kid in a late model Ford p/u and he has it running (gas engine) with windows down. Heat pouring off that thing....
It's a cool night 68deg...don't need ac or heat. Why not shut it off?
He was still there idling 1/2 hour later when I came out!!

    Why???

Also there was a line of cars and suvs idling waiting for kids all with windows up and ac on.

I don't get it. Why cook your engine and waste gas for no reason?

The general population isn't that smart. We had that discussion at work just recently. If you really pay attention, it's a bit alarming how clueless so many people are to common sense things.

67 deg. here last night .. noticed 4 houses running A/C when I walked the dogs. Must be easier to pay electric bill then open windows.

.. also LOVE when I see inground sprinklers running when its pouring down rain

One of my sons lost his job and is struggling to pay bills. I go over to his townhouse and he has a window unit upstairs running as well as the central running. Keeps it at 70 deg even when 99 outside. I keep my place at 78deg. He's the only one living there and doesn't use the room with the window unit.
Asked him why it was on and he said he might go in there.

I guess it's my fault I just gave him $800 to pay bills.....

We see lawn sprinklers on all the time here in Sunny South Florida amid the Red Tide, Algae, and dead fish. In many cases its's the local governments that leave the sprinklers on. It's the rainy season here, and the same governments are telling us to conserve water as the dry season is sneaking up on us.

Some things defy explanation, there simply is no reason some people do the things they do. Think back when you asked your 3 year old "why did you pour the gallon of milk on the floor"? And they answer "I don't know"! Dain Bramage!

I work for a very large teaching hospital and have the responsibility for heating and cooling the cancer treatment center; it is being remodeled a little at a time so they don't have to stop treatments. Had a meeting with project manager and contactors before comencement explaining some do's and don'ts. I tell them under no circumstances can you contractors effect the AC, air pressure differential between the clean rooms and the exhaust of the nuclear medicine pharmacy okay"? "Before you cut duct, close or open dampers or cut pneumatic or electric control lines please call me".

In three weeks they have shut down the pharmacy three times because of their mistakes. Treatments have to stop and patients who can be there for three or four hours getting their invusions now have to wait longer till their meds are ready. I grab the project manager and drag him to the waiting room, show him 100+ people with cancer waiting because of him. He pitches a hissy fit, calls my boss and tells him I am not allowed on his project anymore (yea, good luck with that). Special Meds Director hangs him from the highest tree (wish I could have been there) and then bozo comes to me with his tail between his legs asking for my input so this never happens again. "IT NEVER HAD TO HAPPEN IN THE FIRST TIME"!

On the subject of cars running and wasting gas, it floors me how many parents drive their kids to school and pick them up. Lines are long and when the buses pull in they are all but empty. Another way huge amounts of gas are wasted are poorly timed stop lights, can you imagine the amount of gasoline used during a year with people sitting idling at a stop light while nobody is going the other way?

One of my peeves too. Another along that line are 1/2 school days or Lets start the school year on a Friday. Really? I rode the bus, my kids rode the bus. What makes the neighbors kids so special and privileged that they have to driven to school and dropped off at the door then picked up later while that parent sits in a mile long line of cars 2 wide for their precious to come out of the school. One of the biggest line items in the school districts budget is transportation. My property tax millage for schools go up every year so whats the thinking of bringing all the kids to schools and then taking them back home 3 hours later so the teachers can have a work day? Happens several times a month. Here's a thought..... Lets have a 4 day week one time a month and dont run the buses! I proposed exactly that to the new school super when he was on the campaign trail. guy said great idea! Have to look into it. 2 years later, nothings changed. Go figure.

I had to take a different route to work because the parents waiting in line to pick kids up was overflowing into the road and they had to have a cop there to direct traffic. 20 yrs ago there would be maybe 10 cars waiting...now it's like 30 or 40. All of course idling and massaging their cell phones.

Yeah nowadays the school bus stops at just about EVERY driveway. Can't your precious walk 500ft. As a kid we ALL had to walk a 1/4-1/2 mile+ to an area where ALL the school buses picked up ALL the kids. There where NO buses for the Tech school I attended. Had to walk or bike 3 1/2 miles ea. way. At that time MOM DID NOT drive.

I walked to school in 1st-6th grade....like 5 blocks......in DC at that...liked to take the alleys....often found stuff on the way home....including kittens in a trash can once.

I'm 40 years old. I always walked to school, anywhere from 10-50 minutes each way. In pretty densely populated areas, crossing lots of streets while dodging traffic. It was like playing Frogger at 10 years old while going to school. Then came a bicycle, which greatly expanded my world. I was pretty skinny back then.

In my daily commute I'm often stuck behind a school bus that will stop at every house in the street. I don't mind when it's a toddler, but when the "kid" is bigger than me... Couldn't they at least gather at a central location and board the bus there?? How are they going to learn how to live in the real world? No wonder colleges now have "safe spaces" with puppies and coloring books, to protect students (ADULTS) from unhappy thoughts.

I have a 2 lane street into my Subdivision, During the Schools Pickup & Drop off times, I have to reschedule my travels as You can't go both directions.
Virtually empty school buses, but 60 cars in line, & blocking the road for 3 blocks, west bound & the 2 side streets South bound.
Needless to say, I Won't back down, so They have to find a drive, or back up to where They can get into line & Wait.
Then You have the IDIOTS, that Can't Read English where the sign States "No Left Turn" entering school drive between the 2 times, So they stop & sit with their Turn signal (Maybe) on to go in the Drive.
I have come to the conclusion that I will Vote Against Any School Bond, locally if the Money is wasted. Why pay for Buses if not Used? (ISD has over 80 Buses, & ared running under 50% capacity.

So, if it's 74 inside with 40% RH, and 67 out with near 100% RH, does it really make sense to open all of the windows and screen doors? It's gonna get hot again.

The kids cannot walk anymore that about 50 feet before they need a ride. Parents, these days, coddle their kids. Besides, kids are too busy burying their heads in their Iphones to walk.
I was born and raised in the country, and I walked or biked a half mile to school for 4 years until we got a new centrally located school and the i rode the bus
