I *believe* Jim went a 12.18 or 12.19 in his first qualifying pass? I know for certain he had gone that quick earlier in the day or maybe even on Friday...the air was horrible all weekend, but that's racing!

Overall, was a cool event...I was too rushed for my liking, showing up just in time for qualifying, but being surrounded by a BUNCH of actual old school, S/S cars (with vintage floppers & rails thrown in for good measure) made the down time fly by! Best traction I've ever witnessed on a starting line, bar none...

BTW: a big "THANK YOU" goes out to Rusty for setting up a great weekend @ KCIR!!!!

[And how about a picture of the lucky guy who took home the trophy? :TU: ]

Jim may have run quicker in test-n-tune but, of his 2 qualifying runs, that was it!

I am waiting for the pics!!!!

Steve, thanks for letting me drive your Cuda, and to your bride for putting me up and feeding me too. I had a blast!:beers2: It felt good to get out and row the gears again. :3gears:

And thanks too you and RustOldsium for taking the initiative to get this thing set up. I think it is a great venue for a regional race. The car show and the other race classes were a good breeding ground for F.A.S.T. and F/S cars. The track personell were GREAT! Very accomodating and cooperative.
The dates would need to be a consideration though. Being one week before the F.A.S.T. Fall Nationals really hurt the turnout of F.A.S.T. cars.

We had a great time!!We finally made it home at 1.00 am Monday Morning!About 3 hrs of HEAVY rain..YUK!! Max held that trophy tight all the way home, and brought it to the shop today to let our guys see the new hardware!!Thanks for letting him take it home, and I'll get you those pics ASAP!A big THANKS to Rusty for setting this race up,I think it has potential to be a big hit with the F.A.S.T guys, since the track stuck like glue!!Now all we need is that "Cool October air" for next year.......

I had a guy who called me and asked if he could bring a chevelle to race next time. He thought since there were alot of 13-14 second passes he could do that......LOL I dont think some people in the stands really understand how hard it is to get a car off the line with stock appearing tires. Cindy told me she wants her slicks back on now :)

We had a real issue to deal with on Sunday. It rained us out on Sunday and we had a trophy to award. I suggested a best 2 of 3 Rock, Paper, Scissors among Jim and Rob. After they said that idea was silly, we decided to do something different:

Presenting the youngest F.A.S.T. award winner--- Max Nelson!!!!

    Congrats Max!:bglasses:

Dad and I were talking...I said it would be cool if the event was at Gateway, which is a little closer to us, and more paved parking...dad said he thought KCIR had a more *old school* feel which a Nostalgia event needs...and the more I think about it, he's right! KCIR is a nice track, but it's been the same for over 40 years now...running under the lights was SWEET, but when you think about all of the history that has been down that very track? Now THAT is cool! The icing on top was watching all of the old, throw back S/S cars do their thing on the track...lots of Mopars, but even a couple of 99% original "1 of 52" AMX S/S cars getting hammered!

Funny story...and it's mostly Terry Pennington's fault! Sunday morning while finishing up breakfast, mom, dad, myself, and George (ssamx.com) were chatting at a table in the hotel "breakfast area", when I notice one of the hotel managers giving us the stink eye. It takes me a second, but I figure out that she's wanting us to leave our table so she can seat a couple of elderly guests she was helping at the moment. Well, I jump up, tell mom & dad they need our table, and I walk up and tell an elderly gentlemen that he can have my seat...in my haste, I fail to recognize with whom I'm talking, but the guy looks at me, then looks down at my t-shirt, then looks at me again, and then walks on by. About that time, it dawns on my who it is, none other than Don Garlits and his wife Pat...apparently, he didn't see the humor in my t-shirt!? See below...(thanks, Big Dog!)

    Thats our Rob...Smooooth as Butter!!!!

I hope that everyone had as much fun as you could have. Yes, I know that it would have been great to run down the track several more times, but don't we always complain that we never have time to watch the other cars run?

Where else would one want to watch SS cars and the FED's do their thing, but within 50' of the burnout box? Too bad there weren't some more straight axle Gassers doing their thing. I agree with Wayne, get the every week bracket racer out of this event and make it more special!

I see no reason the guys that race on a weekly basis cant find somthing else to do for one freakin weekend a year!!!!!!!!!Let us part timers have few extra passes.. But... I'm sure as a promoter/track owner, its hard to turn away paying customers.. We still had a great time.

    Wayne,

I am going to talk with the promoters of this event and I will mention in the kindest of words about this. We will see if it makes a dent.

This is exactly my feelings after York/Beaver Springs. I was in Nirvana with all the old altereds, gassers, and especially the Pro Stick club. "Real race cars have clutches".

Hopefully my daughter won't be having another one next year at this time, as York/Beaver are burned into my next years' schedule and would like to add the KCIR event, too. I can't wait until my grandson is old enough to come with grandpa and watch "HIS" Ramrod run. Wayne: that's what its all about isn't it?

    Nice job, Rusty and Steve.:bglasses:

Holy cow! He looks like "LIGHTNING ROD MAX" in that weather. I thought with that "jacked up truck" parked behind him, he had just won a mud race

Speaking of history at KCIR; Did anyone know that the first magazine drag strip test of the all new 69 Camaro ZL1, was performed at KCIR? I think it was in Nov. 1968 by Ro McGonegal. I've got the old magazine, but due to advanced memory loss, I can't remember the name of the magazine, or where I put it.........
