Is the '68 silver Riv on eBay a fake? From the looks of it, it has drum brakes, a standard air cleaner and the emblems look a little low on the front fenders, shouldn't they be level with the RIVIERA letters??? http://cgi.aol.ebay.com/ebaymotors/...&item=4528567604&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWA:IT
I've seen that one on ebay before........damn, that car is gorgious! :TU: The GS emblems look OK to me, I don't think they are supposed to be level but you may be right about the missing chrome air cleaner lid. I wonder if it has POSI? That is part of the GS option and I didn't see that in his description......that would be a dead giveaway that it's not a factory GS. IMO, if you're going to plaster some GS emblems on car as an option, it's OK as long as it's the whole deal.......if the POSI and other things are missing, then it doesn't really have the GS option. Wasn't close ratio steering also part of that option for '68? On cars that were GS as a particular model, such as the '73 Riv was, there is no practical way to make it a GS unless you were to use the correct VIN tags from a real one. And that's naughty  :spank:
It's not just the lid, the whole air cleaner is different, it has a larger, more oval snorkel. The seller has not responded to either e-mail I sent him over the last week. I smell a rat! That high bidder is going to be one PO'd guy spending THAT much for a clone! Heck, I wouldn't think a real one would bring that but I guess they are getting more expensive every day.
Every REAL '68-'69 Riviera GS I have seen has the bottom of the GS emblem perfectly level with the bottom of the R-I-V-E-R-A letters on the fenders.
Scroll down until the bottom of the Riviera letters are against the bottom of your screen, you will notice that the GS script is not level with the Riviera letters :Smarty:
I see what you mean, the ones on the other car though did appear to be quite a bit lower, I stand corrected though if yours is an original, they are a tad bit lower but not as low as on the other car.
Tom, Is that the old Monopoly Money ? Shame, I have the digital version: Maybe Yardley will accept online money ?? But prices like this are fairly common on European shores :Smarty:
I believe this to be original too... this car has the correct air cleaner and chrome lid. Does this look like it may be a clone? It has buckets/console... Frank
pardon the poor picture. Its almost 20 years old. This is a picture of my original Riviera GS fender. The bottom edge of the GS emblem does line up with the bottom edge of the Riviera letters.
First of all, the car that was on eBay was silver, and it did not have a chrome air cleaner lid, nor did it have the correct air cleaner for that matter. I suspected I was right about the emblems, I have seen and owned quite a few of them, this pic of the beige car...if this is an original GS, I have NEVER seen one with emblems that low. Typically they will be even with the bottom of the letters, or darn close to it. Mine were exactly level. Also, buckets and a console mean nothing, a lot of Rivs came that way, it was an option on all of them.
Riviera GS emblem needed bad... I need at least one 1968-69 style GS emblem as I am missing one for my front fender...PLEASE HELP! I will pay very well for good examples but will take whatever I can get. Thanks! Mike 614-893-3857 E86A38@aol.com or, PM me!
68/69 Riviera GS Emblems The original Riviera GS emblem has 3 mounting pins with 3 Pal nuts and is 1/2 the thickness of a GS emblem which has larger mounting lugs and 2 larger Pal type self threading speed nuts. You can use the GS emblems but they are not correct for a Riviera. There are repros available. :Smarty: :TU:
I hope I did not get "had". Mine does have the posi rear. Could both be correct depending on where it was made?
