I wanted to go with a wider belt than the stocker. all the pulleys would fit up to 3/8 except the alt so I had that ones inner groove machined to fit. Looks and works better. I like the Dayton(i think) green stripe belts

I run these, in case you want to check them out. Work well for my 71. 15163030586531827921153.jpg

I had some time to look into my fan belt squeal so here's what I Did. First I made sure the belts on the p/s pump and alt weren't to long and that I had enough adjustment and that check out OK. Then I look at the pulleys and they had some pitting and a little rust. The car was at the beach for some time and caused some corrosion. I thought I had them clean when I went though the engine bay but I guess that got by me. So as was suggest in a earlier post here I used some sandpaper to clean the pulleys. I started with 100 grit and ended with 220 grit, I didn't have the nards to do it with the engine running so I just turned the pulleys by hand.

I stopped after what I thought was good enough then used some thinner on a rag to clean out the grooves. I installed the p/s belt first and adjusted the belt so I had about 3/8" deflection. next I did the alt. belt and adjusted to about 1/4" deflection. I have a book that told me that if the pulleys are 11" or under 1/4" is good and if they are 12" apart then about 1/2"deflection is good so I used that as a guide.

I took the Skylark out for a test drive and no Squealing!!!! not even under WOT. I also tested when I was in third gear the pushed the gas pedal to engage the kick down, and still no squealing. Man was it nice just to hear the motor and flow masters!

Thanks guys for all your suggestions!
