Newbie here. Just bought a 1972 Buick Skylark. I'm not a mechanic, not a body guy, not even close. What I am is a dad with 3 sons and a project car. I've owned her all of 2-weeks, found this site...Thanks Jim...and let the good times roll.

I put the new tires and rims on, son works at discount tire. Next will be brakes and suspension. The engine was modified before we got it. Not sure what all done, I know cam replace (not sure what), intake and a edelbrock 750cfm carb. Having a heck of a time getting the carb tuned. Oh and headers and flowmaster exhaust.

Would like pull engine, rebuild it with the boys and .. Possibly a twin turbo!:TU:

Lots of info here ... Thanks guys.... Ready to begin!

And a Maaco paint job (figure we can't do worst than that) with hail dents. Hail dents + Steel Body = Work :) simple glue "pop" out dents does not even come close.

This sounds like the perfect bonding experience! Congrats. We are a good bunch here and typically go by first names. Where are you from? When you get a chance edit your profile and add some pictures to your garage. (you'll see it once you go to edit your profile) Lots of good info here and a pretty good search engine too.

Wearing out that search engine .. HA!

I'm Jack, here in Oklahoma, I have 3 sons, Daniel (20), Dylan (17) and Ian (13). Dylan LUVS this car, he is/will be my right hand on the build. My oldest has his own place, comes by and helps off and on. And Ian is ... well, typical 13 year old, it's girls and video games, but will come out and help if we ask. 11 and under.. it's cartoons and games, somewhere after that, it's girls and games, then 16.. girls and cars! Life if good!

    Welcome!

Ditch the Edelbog carb - what you want is a Q-jet or Holley. Also Flowbasters are the worst flowing mufflers made plus they sound horrible too.

Yea, but when they get interested in girls, they'll get interested in borrowing the car to impress said girls.

If you want to enjoy your project and plan to learn with the boys and do as much of the work as you can , there are at a minimum two reference manuals you must aquire. 1) Buick Factory assembly manual. 2) Body by Fisher Manual.

I also suggest getting a copy of the 64-72 Buick Special Dealer Parts Catalgue.

    Cheers!

The 2 older boys have already asked to take her out for the day. Dylan looking forward to prom with it next year after a rebuild over summer.

Ill start another post on the pic of the engine. I have a few questions or would like suggestions/recommendations. Right now it runs and drives, but manual brakes and steering too "floaty" when hit a bump. I have items ordered to fix the issues... I hope. The guy I bought it from had flowmaster installed and cut right after muffler before rear axle. I had it extended because the exhaust fumes were too much in the cab. Sounded mean until I did that. Now too quiet. My wife has a '11 challenger Rt that we added SLP...now that's a nice sounding car. Was leaning to SLP in future.

Welcome, and have fun on the father/sons project. That's how we got started. I bought my first Buick when my son was 15 to build for him, the red 72. They are never fast enough, and the projects go on and on. Great times. My 25 year old daughter even loves to help, and come to the track.

    Welcome!
Dad bought the Roadmaster in 1970, I was 9 years old. We restored it twice. I hope it'll be as good a project for you and your sons as it was for me and my Dad.:TU:
