i bought this car from a board member 6 years ago and its just been sitting. i decided this winter will be the time to restore it. its an all numbers matching big block from oregon. you guys on the west coast really have it good. every nut & bolt has so far come out, look at the brake lines they look new. we dont have that luxury in the rust belt. all numbers on the frame are legible & the stamped vin matches the vin on the car. i hit it with a high pressure sprayer and can probably do a quick clean and paint it but i think im gonna take it to a local blasing co. & have it cleaned good.

Looks like a nice project, Doug. I was very surprised that nobody bought it when you had it advertised here a couple of years ago.

    Doug,
Glad you started on it. I kept thinking about it and just have too many unfinished projects here. It should be a nice solid car when done ! Tony

thanks guys, its turning out to be a good project. now im kinda glad it didnt sell, after seeing just how original the car is. heres a few pics of the trans. i sprayed some degreaser and used a high pressure washer and it turned out good. it still has the original "BA" stamp and the paint marking. i took the frame to the media blaster today it should be done mid week next week. i high pressure sprayed the frame and there was alot of the original paint still attached and the rearend still had the original paint mark on it too. body shop cant get the body in until spring time so that gives me time to get the chassis, motor, trans & rear end done.

there was a guy at the media blasters dropping off a frame from a 70 el camino, he had frame envy when he saw mine:Brow: his was flaky and he couldnt find any numbers on it.

Nice start on it. Yup, sucks to live in the salt belt. You frame is in better shape than most 2012 trucks around here. Guys out West be junking "parts" cars in far better shape than something you might see at a show here.

    Doug,
I have a guy that will come to you and blast the car, frame, and anything else you may have and need blasted. He has done my rides for me at the shop. Big industrial truck with compressor and fire hose like blaster. He doesn't used silica sand so its less abrasive and not as harmful to the environment. Leme know

some updates. the weather got crappy and ive been working alot so i havent had a chance to do much. i was able to use all the original brake & fuel lines, i just had to clean them. all new bushings installed, new brakes, tie rods, ball joints, pitman arm, springs and anything else that could be replaced (thanks to Dan). engine machine work is done, now gotta assemble it. still waiting on the rearend but it should be done within a week.

Wow, lots of progress - Looks great. Curious as to where you took the rearend to get done if you don't mind sharing.

Keep up with the pics, looks like a great project.

thanks Terry its been time consuming as you know. hows yours coming along? i took the rearend to a local racecar shop, ive known him since high school and he treats me right. i can give you his name if you are looking to have some work done. Jim (Monzaz) also does good work.

a little more progress in the last few weeks. i didnt know what to do with the rearend color but since there wasnt any noticable paint on it when i removed it i decided to do natural steel. ive read alot of info on the rearend color and it seems that most are painted only on the backside. maybe it depends on the cars destination? maybe if it was headed for a snow state then it painted it but if it was headed for a dry state (like this car was from Oregon) then it wasnt painted. theres also a couple pics of the block with all machine work done, now it just needs assembled.

    Hi Doug,

Did the block need bored? How was the condition? Any cracks on the heads? What pistons are you going to use? Have I asked enough questions? Any pictures from the bodyshop yet?
    Looks great!

Terry thanks for the link, i did search all over the site for correct info but this rear didnt have any paint residue on it when i cleaned it so i assume it wasnt painted:confused: there was also no paint on the backing plates inside or outside so i left them natural steel and cleared over them. looking at the pics you can see where the black paint is on the frame & control arms but the axle is a rusty color.

we went .030 over on the block but the block was in excellent condition. i havent had a chance to get the heads to the machine shop yet. i used some pistons i got from am&p. body wont be going to the body shop until sometime in the spring, hes got to many projects right now. ask all the questions you want ill try to answer them:grin:

    Hey Doug,
You're doing a great job, car looks awesome!!!
I remember this one from quite a few years ago, collected some pictures of it, wanted it in my driveway but alas, it couldn't happen. I'm glad you wound up with it judging by the progress!!
LOVE the color/combo. One of my favorites for sure.
Hope to see lots more pictures coming up.
    Keep the momentum!
