Well guys. I thought I'd share the results of my buildup with you. When I first bought my 67 GS 400, the 400 had lost a rod bearing and I started out thinking I'd do a fairly simple 455 driver motor.

As we all know, things tend to get out of hand a little. I decided on doing my dream motor. So... for the last few years I've been collecting parts to get me closer to that goal.

I'd like to thank a few people here first for helping me with my goal of the ultimate street/strip engine.

- Mike and Tim at TA Performance for help with selecting various parts that were needed.
- Jim Weise at TriShield for the aluminum polishing.
- Steve Reynolds at SRE for the absolute masterpiece oil pan.
- Scott Brown at Competition Components for the cam design.
- Chris Skaling at Torque Master Racing for much needed advice throughout the last few years.
- Mike Phillips at AMP had installed the block girdle for the previous owner of the block.
- Jamie McClinton at Newport Start-N-Charge for the mini starter and alternator
- Many board members for parts

Back in October of last year, I had collected the majority of the parts and started thinking about how much porting I wanted to have done to the heads. I started talking with Bobb Makley at Finishline Motorsports about what I wanted to do. It was decided to have them do their cnc porting to the Stage 2 SE heads I had picked up already.

Since I had most of the parts collected (and many more since I couldn't pick a vision and stick to it), I was super excited to finally start assembly. I deliberated for a few weeks wondering if I had the ability to keep this thing together for the long haul. I finally settled on crating everything up and sending it to Bobb and Geof at Finishline. I sure am glad I did. Bobb found a couple things out of spec with the block that had been machined by an unknown shop in Tennessee. (AMP only did the girdle install)

Bobb and I had several discussions on what I wanted to do with the car. We finally settled on these goals.

- Keep the thing street friendly as I plan to drive the car quite a bit with a few trips down the strip each year.
- Run the stg 2 SE head due to better header clearance in the 67 body and I couldn't give up the stock 67 GS hood.
- Have the motor idle down around 750 rpm, have enough vacuum to run power brakes if I choose
- Let the horsepower and torque numbers fall where they want.

So the engine specs...

- 75 455 block bored .038 with TA block girdle
- SRP Spherical Dish Pistons
- Sportsman Rods
- Double Roller Timing Set
- JW The Wheel SFI Flexplate
- Romac SFI Damper
- TA Dual Groove Teflon Cam Bearings
- SP1 Squarebore Intake
- Holley HP1000 Carb 80514
- TA 1.6 Roller Rockers
- Finishline cnc portedTA STG 2 SE heads - 338/266 with standard 2.125/1.75 valves 66cc chamber
- MSD distributor
- TA front cover and HP water pump
- 3/4 race street hydraulic roller cam carefully selected by Scott Brown

10.6 static compression

A few weeks back Bobb called to tell me that Geof and himself were just wrapping up assembly and hoped to dyno around the 4th of July. We were chatting and laughing about how much fun it would be to fly back and see this thing on the dyno as it's my first BBB and their first hydraulic roller motor. Well things worked out and I flew back last Thursday to spend the long weekend with the Ketchum/Makley family. What a blast I had. I was like a kid in the candy store and the dyno session wasn't until Monday. I learned so much I've been making notes all day so I don't forget.

Well enough of that.

Here is a couple pictures just before the dyno pulls.

And. Here we go on the dyno at Steve Morris Racing Engines.

663 HP at 6100. 608 FT/LBS at 5200. 13" vacuum @ 700 rpm. Even idled at 500 rpm till Steve shut the dyno off. :eek2:

I am totally stoked and blown away that we hit those numbers with such a mild setup. I had been thinking 600/600 at around 6000rpm. The crew at Finishline are amazing and I'm blessed to call them friends. Now just a week or so till it arrives here on the West coast.

THANK YOU BOBB, AMY, AND GEOF!!!!

Wow, awesome numbers. Congrats and enjoy. What is a 3/4 race cam? What are the specs on the cam?

:laugh::laugh:Well, at least it's Buick Red:Smarty: I guess we will never know the specs then, but since it makes good vacuum, it couldn't be too wild.

That's a stout street engine , I have seen in the case of Scott's flat tappet cams they tend to have better vacuum @ idle compared to camshafts from other Co.'s with similar specs. I wonder if the intensity of the intake lobe have something to do with it (fast ) type cam. Are the stage 2 heads that much better than others that are offered?

Great numbers for a street motor!! Congrat's!!

Looks very nice too!!

Should be fun! Very easy to go "sideways" with that kind of HP on the street!!!
