Hello, my name is Tanner but my buddies call me big smo, im 20 And in the Navy. Just purchased my first Muscle car a 1970 Buick Skylark with a 455 thats +30 to a 462 out of a 73 Riviera. Edelbrock intake and holley 750 carb. Stock heads, mild cam (not sure what), upgraded front disk brakes, air ride rear suspension. Auburn mini-spool 3.08 (guy said its limited slip but im not quite sure, when i give her hell she will go sideways), turbo 350 automatic. Has flow-master long tube headers and exhuast, (not sure the dimensions). Color is non-original white. Its a 20 ft car. Minor blemishes on fender and quarter panel. No rust. Has new black leather interior. And custom audio. Missing chrome trim over wheel wells and sides. No factory AC. Im on limited income being enlisted military but I eventually would like to make this a nice resto-mod cloned/GS 455 Stage 1. Would like to get nice stage 1 heads from TA, forged pistons, more agressive solid cam (possibly roller), the RAM air hood and snorkel cleaner to go with, a 4 speed manual. Id like to put a 3.47 or so limited slip rear in it. Its already in good driving shape... just needs some tuning and performance to fully unlock the power of the engine. I do know somethings but overall fairly new. Ive helped pops work on his vette a little bit and some buddys with modern tuners. I appreciate any suggestions and tips you have for me and am happy to be apart of the V8 Buick family!

Pretty car, looks like a good platform to start with. If you rear has a mini, I would do start by putting a posi and your 3.73 gears in first. The street drivability with with a mini spool has got to suck, not to mention it is he'll on all the parts in there. The gears will also make a huge difference in the way you car performs. Will be one of the cheapest performance upgrade for the amount of return you can do.

I always start with gears first. Just do all the math, with your tire diameter and planned driving speed to make sure you stay in the rpm range you want.........too much gear and you can be turning 4000 everywhere you go on the highway. I think you should be OK with 3.73 but do the math just to verify, don't assume anything.

Thank you for serving, it's from the blood, sweet, tears, and sacrifices from ppl like you and your families go through that allows all of us to do what we do everyday.

So from my family to your and everyone else who is or has served, much love and praise and thanks you for my freedoms

Welcome aboard! (no pun intended) Best part of this hobby is being able to dive in and learn. Careful of that rabbit hole once you start a project.

Looking forward to seeing your progress.

    Welcome!!
You may want to stay with your 3.08 gears, especially with the 455, you have an abundance of torque, so deeper gears may not be of any advantage for you, especially if you drive on the highway a lot.
