Let me be a lesson in perseverance, patience, and tenacity!

I parked my car around 1986 and began tearing it apart. Like many, family matters, money (or the lack of), jobs, and a host of other things have always needed more time/attention/paydays.

I thought Id be driving the car last year, but after I heard a rod knocking I decided I needed to tear the engine apart again. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise. It took a little better than a year to accumulate the parts I wanted/needed. Thanks to the mechanical experience Ive gained and excellent information now available from places like V8Buick, the engine runs better than ever.

Dont get me wrong. The car is not perfect. There are things that still need to be done and things Id like to do over. Whats left of this summer, though, all I hope to get to do is go through as much $2.00+ premium fuel that old Q-jet can pass through itself. This weekend was a good start on that.

Thanks to everyone, both on this board and locally, with whom Ive bought, bartered, traded parts and work with, or have gotten advice and information from.

A special thanks to my loving wife. She may not totally understand cars. She probably will never understand my love affair for my two Buicks. But, she does understand that making this GS as nice as I possibly could, just for the mere pleasure of working on it and driving it, is about the only real goal Ive had since shes known me. Whats even better is, she helped me to reach that goal.

So just hang in there, Im living proof that a payday is coming!

    71GS455 Best Package Wins!

Good example Dwayne. After breaking down Friday and taking my 4x4 Ranger to the track (had an .038 package in the first round of elim's before breaking out by .008 in the second), I got a little renewed desire to dig into my Skylark.

I'm getting much closer to screwing the rest of the pieces on the motor, and the mounts are in place to bolt it to the frame now (except there appears to be a hole problem in the frame mounts).

I really hope to have it on the road soon too!

    Yours looks great.

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. I think the biggest grin came on my face when my wife got behind the wheel with my grandson in the front seat. I was relegated to the back seat:grin:

Nothing like being chauffeured around in a Buick:TU:

As for the paint, my brother painted the car more or less one piece at a time. He used PPG base coat/clear coat. If you think it shines, you should see his Tempest.

    James,

Sorry I'm so late getting back to you. Been kinda busy.

Dennis wants me to go to the show at the Regatta on Labor Day and to Mt. Airy in Oct.

I hope to make it to the one at the Regatta, but October is kinda up in the air for me. My daughter is due to have her first baby around that time.

Randy Smithson asked me to come to the show at Pine Lodge on 9/11.

Wish I could have been at the show Sunday, but to many chores around here.

Don't know about the picnic in Marysville. I'd like to make it, but will have to wait and see.

I didn't make it for Sunday either, kid in 12th grade with his first ride asked me if I could spray his truck for him so I spent Sunday hookin him up with a spray on his truck......I think we're going to Char on Monday for the same show and I know I'll be at the one on the 11th and Mt Airy, the one on here in Ohio is like 260 miles from here and with so much going on that month it aint lookin good for us.

I have personally seen Dwayne's, James' and Dennis' cars.....and I can tell you one thing...The boys from southern West Virginia like, and build nice cars. The pictures don't do them justice.

    Nice cars guys!!!!

Congrats on having it back on the road. (some of us couldn't say that)
