Great to see you at the Show,

Although the weather in Abbotsford was mild, and the skies had cleared, it was another story if you were travelling from outside of the Valley. Cole M. made the trip down from Kamloops in his truck, loaded with 455 engine blocks (3), bb heads, assorted Buick parts, and a '69 GS hood(he purchased enroute). Needed the extra weight for traction through the slushy sections, right Cole! It had snowed in Squamish during the night, so driving the GN was abandoned, and I took the '89 Estate Wagon, instead. As Geri and I had just parked at the Tradex, Marcel and Jamie , from Victoria, were arriving. We had a very enjoyable day together, especially watching the auction. I couldn't believe someone was attempting to sell a 1967 Camaro convertible Indy Pace Car. This car had been previously purchased at a B.J. Auction, and the highest bid it received at the Tradex auction was $27k - a long way from being close to the reserve price. Documentation I saw, revealed he was into this car for some $60k. As I joked to the guys, you'd have a better chance of selling a low hour Massey Ferguson Tractor, with manure still in the tire treads, to this crowd. Spoke to a fellow, who owned a 1963 Skylark, and only had an $8700 bid on his reserve price of $10k. A 1972 Chevelle 454 4-speed sold for $25,500. A '66 Impala convertible sold for $11k. There were some good deals. A few of us had gathered outside the Tradex, looking over a 1971 Skylark, which apparently had been on the auction block. We couldn't agree amongst each other, whether the owner had used a short, or long nap roller, to paint the car. Only Cole was observant enough to pick some of the finer points... like being a radio-delete car. While outside, Joe Hoath, and his son Everett(sp) joined us. Joe had owned a 1969 GS 400, but sold it, and is now working on a very nice 1971 Skylark. The '71 will be 455-powered and have GSX styling. His Buick may be completed by late summer.
Only 4 Buicks on display, inside: 1962 Wildcat, 1964 Wildcat convertible, 1971 Riviera, and 1984 Regal.
Would be nice, to have a few forum members display their Buicks together. I'll commit to entering my GS or GN, if there are another 2-3 Buicks to be shown. I haven't seen anything exciting, representing the Buick marque, in the last few years at the Tradex.
It was very fun meeting with all of the guys, and share a few laughs.

    Take care,

    Nando.

    Hi Jamie,

My aren't you an early riser. I'm working night shift right now... well, working may be a little overdoing it, as I do have time between rounds to access the Internet.
Geri and I enjoyed our time at the show, talking to you during the afternoon.
The B.C. Classic and Custom Car Show will be held at the Tradex on April 25, 26. I don't think I have that weekend off, but we'll see, as the date gets closer. We're planning to drive the GN to Vernon on April 12, and staying at my friends for 4 days. I'll try and hook up with Cole in Kamloops, and visit Chris Nielsen (1970 Stage 1). Hopefully, I'll be able to source out a fan shroud for Cole.
Any dates in mind for the Island group to race at Mission? If there's something we can plan for, I'll get the word out to other Buick racers.

    Take care,

    Nando.

    Hi Jamie,

I have a tentative date for the All GM Picnic in July 2009. This event is organized by the B.C. Oldsmobile Club. This event will be the first of its' kind to be held on the Mainland. This show will replace their annual BOPC event. Last year, we had 15 Buicks out! For more info and pictures of 2008's show, check out the forum's " Buick Gathering at BOPC, Langley, B.C.." The first post on this show appeared May 15, 2008.
Like last year, the show will be held at Campbell Valley Regional Park in Langley. The car entrance fee will be $5.00. It will be held on Sunday, July 5th. I can already hear Doug F. groaning, as he has other holiday plans that weekend.
We had a great time last year, and the weather was absolutely beautiful. The park is a fine family-oriented location, as I'm not too fond of the ol' mall parking lot shows.
As I get more details of the Picnic, I will post the info and reminder on the forum.

    Take care,

    Nando.
