After tons of body work, I was finally able to spray color on my 1972 Skylark. I used Summit's paint system - 2k primer/surfacer and then Hugger Orange single stage urethane. I used single stage since I figured half the coats of base/clear = half as long for bugs and trash to settle into the paint. I have less than $200 into the primer and color. I think this system is a great value. This was painted in a garage. I'm pretty satisfied with the way it turned out. It's only the second paint job I've ever done, and it came out a lot better than the first. Continuous improvement, but still a long way to go. It looks good in the pictures, but I still plan on color sanding and buffing it. I got a little bit of dust in it a couple minor sags.
You made the right decision going with single stage,...and who paints a Buick Hugger Orange??? Ha I'm sure it will look great
Thanks for the kind words guys. The hood scoops are universal urethane scoops from Jegs that I modified (cut down and reshaped) and molded in. It took a lot of effort to make them flow visually. I was going for a look similar to the pearl white 1970 GSX prototype car.
Stab Why don't you sand with 600 wet. (Don't sand through) Then Clear it . That's what I did with my white car. No sand no dirt no buff
And you'll get better UV protection/ more scratch resistance. You still have to clear cars that have single stage. The reason guys like single over base/ coat clear . Is because the base coat / clear never has that Deep "LOOK"
