Ok since i finally have my grille out, and had to take my headlight bezels out to get the grille out i decided while i'm at it i can restore the inner bezel (the area that surrounds the headlights.. not the part painted the same color as the car. What is the color these are supposed to be? Are they chromed or is it silver paint.. it's just the small inner bezel area around each light.

On a 72 the bezel should be a dark argent gray around the headlight area, with chrome around the outer edge.

sure? Mine are a black (painted by previous owner... damn previous owners. grr)... but it's chipping off... under it is a chromish kind look same as the outer edges..

speaking of outer edges.. how might one get that rechromed? mine is err.. not so hot but not bad either.. but if i'm doing it once, i might as well do it once rather than twice.

Hi, guys. There have been a few posts about restoring these things over the years. I recall somebody (Duane H.?) saying that he had 3 pairs of NOS ones and they were 3 different colors! But from my experience, they weren't black. BTW, the gray zinc phosphate paint Eastwood sells is a dead match for the factory paint that came on my '72 bezels. It's amazing how great it comes out. I can post a couple pic's if you like.
    Good luck,
    John

    Kyle,
Here are a "before" and an "after" pic. This is what the zinc phosphate paint looks like. Actually, each picture is a different door, but obviously, the finishes are the same.
Before I install the doors, I will compound and wax the red part, as it's never been buffed.
    HTH!
    John

awesome. you've definitely given me some choices now. appreciate all the help in this thread and the other. you guys are better than having someone else do it :) .. lol

    EDIT:

any tips for fixing up the chromed edges and the chrome section near the grill area? i don't want to remove it but if i need to have it rechromed i would do that too. couldn't cost too much to have it done.
