Anyone ever buy an aftermarket front spoiler with any luck? Is the baffle needed?

You don't need to install the front baffle if you don't want to, but you will not get the downdraft characteristics if you don't put the baffle on.

Of course the spoilers/baffles only create down draft over 90 MPH.

Beats the heck out of lift. Is that what Ron Frakes said?

I bought plastic (not fiberglass) a while back...thought I read somewhere plastic correct...plus didn't need paint. Don't remember which vendor...would have to look for receipt. Fit perfectly. Used clamps and started at outside ends. Assembly Manual for drilling reference. Didn't come with center brace, so bought one (again, not sure where...it's been a while). That didn't want to fit, so it's in a cabinet...I'll fit it sometime.

Also bought baffle...only for correctness...ain't gonna drive "queen" fast enough to need it.:eek2: Didn't fit...some notches had to be enlarged to clear baffle bolts...and couldn't get those 6 clips that attach front edge to bumper...it's tight against bumper. A little wavy...I assume that's from bumper/fender/core support tolerences...

I never could figure out how to get the stupid baffle installed. Does it fit under the spoiler and bumper or over it?

"Is that what Ron Frakes said?"

No, I got that info from the actual test results the factory did on the front and rear spoilers. Of course Ron Frakes did sign the sheets.

I make the correct looking front spoilers. They are made from different material and are harder then the originals but have the correct appearance. They have all the mounting and clearance holes pre-cut and do not require the center brace because they are much tougher then the originals. Mine were designed to be used on the show cars, but a bunch are on race cars as they hold up well at high speeds. (Unlike the hand layed fiberglass units.)

There is another company that makes them out of the right material, but their parts do not have the same "fine-grained" texture as the originals.

Their spoilers also have no holes pre-cut, so you need to do a little work to mount them.

Both types of spoilers will work on the cars, so the choice depends on what you need.

My spoilers are more costly and I make them infrequently. The others are readily available.

PS. I also sell the correct front baffles for both the 70 & 71-72 cars. They are die cut in the same shape as the originals and require no trimming at all.

PSS. If you had to trim the baffle you probably put it on upside down. They are not symetrical from side to side.

Mine had holes...remember transferring locations to masking tape on core support/fenders. Tried baffle both ways...guessing maker didn't know and made cutouts symmetrical.:Do No: There should be a "double" cut left side.

Got spoiler some years back...sounds like maker(s) now cutting costs by eliminating holes...shame, holes made installation piece-of-cake using clamps and masking tape.

To gsla72 - Installing baffle...front edge sits inside bumper, rear edge sandwiched between spoiler and core support/fenders. After installing spoiler to satifaction, back-off bolts for baffle clearance and remove enough from one side/end to slide baffle across and up into roll in front bumper. Loosely reinstall removed bolts and slide baffle rearward into place. There are 2 additional bolts in bumper "tabs" and 2 in spoiler. My '71 Assembly Manual page 11 - 4.5 was great reference...:TU:

    Dan,
My website is kaput, the server crashed and took everything with it. My wife is setting one up on Facebook but until then you would need to call me @ 610-544-6776 after 7:30 PM eastern. (Also do not leave a message, but call back until you get me.)

Currently we have no spoilers in stock but will be making more soon. My mold is cracking so they are being sold on a first come-first serve basis. We are babying the mold, but once it breaks that's it. I will not re-make the mold.

    Curtis,
My spoilers cost $229 each plus shipping. It ships in a very large box, and the cost to ship to Fla would be approx $50.00

The front baffles go for $55 and the (6) clips are $1.00 each.
