g-body dave regal update

    well guy after the long summer the motor is in the exhaust is hooked and the 200r4 is ready to rip now all I need to do is figure out what all of the wires :TU: he ran go to and hopefully I can have it running by this afternoon .Can any one give me the low down on breaking a new motor in? Hope to have some pics soon :TU:

    just don't run it too hard or let it get hot. Break the cam in, then change the oil and filter. Then drive it around 500 miles and change the oil + filter again.

    Be sure the trans has at least 4 qt of fluid in ot before you start the engine. THen check as soon as you can after the engine starts.

    I'm glad to see you're still working on it. Dave would be proud of your eforts I'm sure.

    Hey Matt, good to hear from you!

    For break-in, do the usual pre-oil, crank the car over without the distributor. Then I try to run the 455 for 30 minutes in the car and look for leaks, overheat, and problems. Next up I do a couple of 1-2 mile shakedown cruises to look for rubbing, nreakage, steering problems, or stuff I forgot to connect. Then I go up to 10, 20 and 50 mile increments. All told i drive about 2-500 miles on the engine and seat up the rings etc. After that I do a couple of launches and see how the car holds together.
